Queens Public Library and Lewis Latimer House Museum Present:
Talk with David W. Blight, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author of Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom
Join us for a presentation with the historian David W. Blight about his 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning biography Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom. Blight, a history professor and director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University, will discuss what prompted him to pursue the story of the escaped slave who became one of the leading orators, abolitionists, and writers of his era. The conversation will also touch upon Douglass’s involvement in the fight to release George Latimer — the father of inventor and Flushing resident Lewis Latimer — whose struggle for freedom became a pivotal case for the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts.
Books will be available for sale and signing.
