Meet NYC's Piping Plover

Enjoy the beach? So do nesting piping plovers. These tiny shorebirds, lighter than a beach ball, fly over 700 miles to nest at Rockaway Beach every year. Come meet the team from NYC Parks that is monitoring and protecting this endangered species. There will be family-friendly activities and wildlife viewing walks to raise awareness of these amazing shorebirds, as well as information on how we can all share the beach.

Schedule of Events:

11:00 a.m. - Bird Walk Adventure with the Urban Park Rangers
Location: Rockaway Beach Boardwalk, enter near Beach 35th Street

Noon - 3:00 p.m. - Meet NYC Parks' Wildlife Unit
Learn more about nesting shorebirds, and enjoy family-friendly activities
Location: Rockaway Beach Boardwalk, enter near Beach 17th street

1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. - View the birds -- walk with Queens County Bird Club
