Adventures in Time Spring Break Mini Camp
Tuesday, April 23, 2019
9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
This event repeats every day between 4/23/2019 and 4/25/2019.
Send your child back in time at Van Cortlandt House Museum this spring as we celebrate the 244th Anniversary of the "Shots heard around the world" - The Battle of Lexington and Concord at our Adventures in Time Spring Break Mini-Camp.
Your child will learn about how the City of New York prepared itself for the war of independence. Children will travel in time back to the outbreak of the Revolutionary War and experience the life of a soldier in the Continental Army. Activities include crafting a paper cocked hat, signing enlistment papers into the army, and using a quill pen and ink. Outdoor activities such as a military drill and reconnaissance are also part of the action depending on the weather.
The camp is lead by Van Cortlandt House Museum’s professional staff and talented living history volunteers. Daily activities for Adventures in Time Winter Break Mini-Camp are designed in keeping with New York State 4th grade curriculum standards and are appropriate for children ages 6 to 12.
Spring Break Mini-Camp is open to all children with a sense of adventure who will complete 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th grade (or the equivalent) in June of 2019. We encourage early enrollment, as camp space is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Children are not required to attend all three days.
Registration begins on January 1, 2019. For more information, please email email@example.com.
Van Cortlandt House Museum is owned by the City of New York Parks & Recreation, operated by The National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York, and is a member of The Historic House Trust of New York City.
