Join the Friends of Morningside Park along with local officials as we plant a pink weeping cherry in memory of departed community activists who were arrested for sitting in front of Columbia University's bulldozers in February 1968. Their protest and subsequent protests resulted in halting the project and saving Morningside Park from a major encroachment that would have severely altered its original design - now recognized as a Scenic Landmark of New York City.

Suki Ports, the only surviving activist from the February 1968 construction site protest will preside over the ceremony along with Manhattan President Gale Brewer.
