Retracing Our Roots: Youth Capturing the Stories of Community Gardens

Thursday, February 21, 2019

4:00 p.m.6:00 p.m.

Grow to Learn and GreenThumb

Join us as we will learn about the stories of community gardens and how they came to exist within this highly urbanized environment and the struggles that it took to make it possible. Garden members will be present to share the story of the garden, and youth in attendance will have an opportunity to practice their interview and journalistic skills by recording these stories. The recordings and documentation will be archived on the Smithsonian’s Garden Archive in order to preserve the legacy of these incredible urban oases.

Learn more about the Garden Archive at gardens.si.edu/collections-research/aag.html.

Please RSVP so we can list your name at the security desk. Please also bring a photo ID and allow time to get through security.

GreenThumb is excited to be offering its first ever youth workshop series. This is part of a larger effort in looking towards the future to foster the growth of the next generation of gardeners. Please encourage youth among family, friends, and community to attend these fun and free events.
