Public Art Event: Pelliza Weaving as an Act of Healing with Gina Goico

Please join artist Gina Goico for a community engagement performance in which passersby and people from the community are invited to collaborate in the collective hand weaving of a pelliza (Dominican Rag Rug).

These pellizas will be hung as banners for the temporary public art installation Sanar in Inwood Hill Park. Sanar is a reminder of the power that lies within symbolic practices–recognizing our hurts, holding space for our communities and ourselves, and being purposeful in healing through our own practices. The installation is the result of a performance and collaborative work with people from the neighborhood. Sanar is part of Persuasive Visions, a Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) public art with curatorial support by Stephanie Lindquist.
