It's fall and the Bowne House site and Weeping Beech Park gardens are slowing down and preparing for the winter season. Volunteer at one of the oldest gardens in New York City and the Weeping Beech Park next door.
Help us clean up the summer debris. Be outside and work in teams on group projects or alone, or provide specialized horticulture or other garden expertise. Adults and children are welcome.
Previous groups of volunteers have enjoyed working together and witnessing the impact of their team work and efforts over a three-hour period.
October Volunteer Teams
- Raking Teams: Rake tree leaves that have gathered in the garden beds and pick them up into paper bags for the NYC Compost Project. These leaves will be composted for future use in NYC community gardens and other NYC Parks. There is a strong educational focus on sustainability in the garden and park areas.
- Mulching Teams: Mulch the garden beds to help maintain moisture around the plantings in the dry periods and to prevent weeds from taking over the areas. Move the mulch into wheelbarrows and into containers to help spread throughout the garden beds.
- Bulb planting teams
Meet at the gate at 9:00 a.m.
