History comes to life when The Conference House Association presents its annual 1776 Peace Conference Celebration commemorating the historic conference held on September 11, 1776 in the Conference House, Staten Island, NY.
Re-enactment of the Peace Conference
The highlight of this event will be a 1:00 p.m. re-enactment of the Peace Conference which attempted to end the Revolutionary War. Local actors will portray the important historical representatives Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Edward Rutledge and Briish general Richard Howe.
The opening patriotic ceremony at 11:00 a.m. with the Staten Island Bagpipers will honor the victims of September 11, 2001.
The patriotic festival provides a day of fun activities for the whole family! Enjoy colonial era re-enactments as uniformed Revolutionary War re-enactors will march and mingle with visitors and demonstrate colonial military life. The Daughters of the American Revolution will exhibit artifacts. Enjoy the fun of colonial music and dancing, talks with colonial craftsmen making tinware and woodcrafts, demonstrations by spinners and quilters, and chair-caner. The Conference House Auxiliary will demonstrate authentic 18th-century open hearth cooking, including making of fresh soup. A colonial treat of bacon and apple cornbread, soup, and fresh baked treats will be sold.
Fun activites for children include kite-making, tin-punching, and cornhusk doll making. A unique and fabulous day in Conference House Park!
