Alice Smith, an emotive soul singer whose single ?Dream? was nominated for a Grammy, is known for her gripping live performances. The D.C. and Georgia-bred Smith, who now calls Brooklyn her home, is joined by British rapper, poet and political activist Akala. Opening the show is DJ Stormin Norman, who has been a staple of Harlem?s vibrant music scenes since the ?90s. Featuring pre show Voices of A People?s History Workshop with Celisse Henderson, 6pm. Born in Oakland, California, and residing in New York City, Henderson is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, performer, and spoken word artist. Performing a selection of work by: Nina Simone, ?Four Women? (1978), Nina Simone, ?I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free? (Written by Billy Taylor & Dick Dallas) (1963), Maya Angelou, ?Phenomenal Woman? (1978), Howard Zinn, ?The Problem Is Civil Obedience? (1970).
