Dancehall would not exist the way we know it without Jamaica?s trailblazing Sister Nancy. Her ebullient, visionary knockout single, ?Bam Bam,? is not only a foundational cornerstone of dancehall, but of hip-hop, too. She?ll perform along with the multi-disciplinary musician Shinehead and the eclectic sounds of DJ Misbehaviour on the ones and twos. Featuring pre show Voices of A People?s History Workshop with muMs aka Craig Grant and The Big Good Wolf performance from the CityParks PuppetMobile, 4pm. Raised in the Bronx, Craig muMs Grant is an internationally known spoken word artist and American poet, actor, and playwright best known for his role of Poet on the HBO hit show Oz. Performing a selection of work by: Dr. Martin Luther King, Speech at the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Atlanta, Georgia (1967), Public Enemy, ?Fight the Power? (1990), Howard Zinn, ?The Problem Is Civil Obedience? (1970). Check out our community partner?s, Word Up Community Bookshop/Librer¡a Comunitaria, awesome activation while you?re at the show! Activations will run starting 1 hour before show time.
