Celebrate Mother’s Day early with the Black Rock Coalition Orchestra’s soulful tribute to the iconic 1976 musical drama Sparkle, followed by a screening of the 2012 remake. Set in the 1960s, this wonderful film is a bittersweet look at the cost of fame through three sisters who defy their mother and form a girl group, rising to stardom. This award-winning film was brought to the screen by Mara Brock Akil & Salim Akil (BEING MARY JANE) and debuts Jordan Sparks (American Idol) in title role. This revision also features Carmen Ejogo (SELMA), Tika Sumpter (THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS) and Omari Hardwick (POWER) and Whitney Houston in her final acting role.
Know Before You Go:
