Jennifer Wingate will discuss memorials by sculptors such as Augustus Lukeman, Pietro Montana, and Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, and how the stories of their creations open windows onto 1920s NYC.

Jennifer Wingate is Associate Professor of Fine Arts at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY. She is the author of Sculpting Doughboys: Memory, Gender, and Taste in America's World War I Memorials and co-editor of the journal, Public Art Dialogue.

This event is in conjunction with the exhibition Over Here: A Centenial Commemoration of World War I Memorials in NYC Parks.
