Celebrate Manhattan’s only remaining lighthouse with Urban Park Ranger educational presentations, visits to the lighthouse interior, readings of eponymous children’s book, fishing clinics, live music, food vendors, and fun family activities!
The days entertainment line up includes the making of The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge musical, featuring excerpts from the show and interviews with the writer, cast, and director (12-1pm), ensembles from The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps, and Cinderella Samba by the Swedish Cottage Marrionette Theatre PuppetMobile (2-3pm). Between those performances there will be educational talks from the Urban Park Rangers and readings of our giant copy of the book The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge written by Hildegarde Swift, illustrated by Lynd Ward.
Stop by the beach at 172nd and join NYS DEC for I Fish NY for public fishing clinics.
Food vendors and interesting tablers like Riverkeeper, United States Coast Guard Auxilary, Waterfront Alliance, Pied Piper Childen's Theatre, Historic House Trust, and lighthouse art by Norman Ibarra add interest and Sugar Hill Children's Museum & Columbia University NEED Lab provide thoughtful children's activities.
Our Summer on the Hudson Little Red Lighthouse coloring sheet is a great take home souvenir, and so are our fall weather ready Little Red Lighthouse Festival long sleeve tees under the Riverside Park Conservancy tent (tee sales proceeds support next year's festival).
