This classic 1987 comedy features Robert Townsend as Bobby Taylor an aspiring actor and hot-dog stand employee who catches the ire of his grandmother (Helen Martin) for auditioning for a role in the regrettably titled exploitation film "Jivetime Jimmy's Revenge." When he gets cast in the title role, Bobby has a series of nightmares about African-American stereotypes in Hollywood. He wakes hoping to reconcile his career goals with his desire to remain a positive role model. Produced, directed, and co-written by Robert Townsend, the film is semi-autobiographical and features Keenan Ivory Wayans, Damon Wayans, John Witherspoon and John Witherspoon.
