Written and directed by John Singleton, this 1993 romantic drama follows hairdresser Justice (Janet Jackson), who writes poetry to deal with the loss of her mother. Unable to get to Oakland to attend a convention, Justice gets a lift with her friend, Iesha (Regina King) and Iesha's postal worker boyfriend, Chicago (Joe Torry). Along for the ride is Chicago's co-worker, Lucky (Tupac Shakur), to whom Justice grows close despite a rocky introduction.

The film garnered Jackson an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for the song, "Again". This film, also, features poetry written by Maya Angelou, who, with the Last Poets, makes a cameo appearance.
