Join us for a walk through the Lower East Side’s historic community gardens to look at trees and learn how to successfully cultivate garden and street trees.

This workshop will discuss multiple topics including tree identification, how to choose the right tree for the right site, and how the palette of street trees is selected for its tolerance of rough urban conditions, as well as ways to keep your trees healthy and vigorous.

We will explore the ornamental features of selected exotic and native species, and touch on cultural practices, such as the pruning, mulching, and watering and cultural requirement, such as certain trees being salt-, drought-, pollution-, and compaction-tolerant.

This is a walking tour. The group will leave the starting location at E. 7th St. and Ave. B at 5:45 p.m. We will be visiting 6BC Garden (located on E. 6th St. between Ave. B & C) on our tour and will conclude at La Plaza Cultural (located at the corner of E. 9th St & Ave. C).

Please call (347) 860-0397 or (929) 295-1369 if you are running later or need assistance on the day of the workshop.

Presented in partnership with Ronen Gamil.
