The Savoy Ballroom opened on Mach 12, 1926 and was called the "World's Finest Ballroom" as well as "The Home of Happy Feet"." It was located on Lenox Avenue between 140 and 141 Streets. A long succession of dance fads were lauched from the Savoy. These dances included the Flying Charleston, The Lindy Hop, The Stomp, The Big Apple, Jitterbug Jive, The Shimmy, and many others.
