Learn to identify and value the beautiful trees of the High Line during this special walking tour of the park with Leslie Day and Trudy Smoke, author and illustrator of Field Guide to the Street Trees of New York City.
Leslie Day, author of Field Guide to the Natural World of New York City, is an environmental science and biology teacher at The Elisabeth Morrow School. She developed the City Naturalists Summer Institute for teachers with the Central Park Conservancy and has a doctorate in science education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She and her husband live in Washington Heights in the winter and on a houseboat at the 79th Street Boat Basin in the summer.
Trudy Smoke has studied botanical illustration at the New York Botanical Garden. There she learned to identify and draw plants and their individual characteristics. In addition to her interest in nature, she has a doctorate in linguistics from New York University and is a Professor of English at Hunter College, City University of New York. She lives on the Upper West Side with her husband. Leslie and Trudy have been best friends since their teens and share a love of nature and beauty.
This High Line Program is open to visitors of all ages. Tickets are $15, or $10 for members of Friends of the High Line.
