African Dance

Learn traditional African dances, rhythms, and songs from Senegal and Guinea, West Africa. Class warm-up includes working on core strength, flexibility, stamina, and rhythmic sensibility. This is a multi-level class; advanced beginner level dancers and up.

Afro-Caribbean Dance and Movement unites dance, rhythm, and song.  The class creates an environment and dance community that nurtures, heals, renews, and inspires the body and spirit.  The class was listed in New York magazine's "The Best of New York", New York Confidential and was also written up in New York Woman's "Time Out".  An open level class is offered on a drop-in basis.

Afro-Haitian Dance describes a movement style rooted in traditional Haitian folklore. Celebrating life, beauty and the power of culture, this open level dance class focuses on developing each participant's relationship to poly-rhythm and percussion. Haiti has one of the highest levels of African retention in the western hemisphere. The dance and music from this extremely complex and resilient country are rich with stories of perseverance, love, war and the connections/disconnections all human beings share with their environment. Come learn to dance Bachata with Fabiola! Bachata is a style of social dance from the Domincan Republic which is now danced all over the world. It is associated with bachata music.

Children come learn the basics of ballet.    They must come in comfortable clothing. No jeans.  After attending a few classes you should purchase a ballet uniform.  If you don't have ballet shoes you can use your socks.

This program is part of our drop in out of school time.  Children can attend programs Monday - Friday 3:00-6:00p.m. They can come to one class or come to them all.


Level 2 - 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Level 1 - 11:30 - 12:30 p.m.

Ballet is an essential foundation for all dances. Dance is a great way for kids to get active and express themselves creatively. This class introduces children to the basics of ballet in a low-key and fun atmosphere while working on alignment, technique and discipline. (Ballet attire and shoes required)

Goal: To learn the foundation of dance, improve balance and flexibility.
