African Dance

Learn traditional African dances, rhythms, and songs from Senegal and Guinea, West Africa. Class warm-up includes working on core strength, flexibility, stamina, and rhythmic sensibility. This is a multi-level class; advanced beginner level dancers and up.

Cost: free for members, non-members $95/8 weeks

Afro-Caribbean Dance and Movement unites dance, rhythm, and song.  The class creates an environment and dance community that nurtures, heals, renews, and inspires the body and spirit.  The class was listed in New York magazine's "The Best of New York", New York Confidential and was also written up in New York Woman's "Time Out".  An open level class is offered on a drop-in basis.

Afro-Haitian Dance

Afro-Haitian Dance describes a movement style rooted in traditional Haitian folklore. Celebrating life, beauty and the power of culture, this open level dance class focuses on developing each participant's relationship to poly-rhythm and percussion. Haiti has one of the highest levels of African retention in the western hemisphere. The dance and music from this extremely complex and resilient country are rich with stories of perseverance, love, war and the connections/disconnections all human beings share with their environment. Come awaken your spirit and discover the healing power of drums with Dancer/Choreographer Adia Tamar Whitaker.

Ballet Fit will utilize ballet movements in conjunction with traditional fitness class movements. The class will begin with a low impact cardio warm up, arm section, leg section at the barre, abs section, and stretch section all inspired by ballet. The class will train participants to carry themselves with the posture and confidence of a ballet dancer.
