Human Impacts Institute’s successful Tree Care Tuesday program will be entering its second season, launching during earth week this April. The goal of Tree Care Tuesdays is to beautify NYC neighborhoods, create community relationships, promote green space, mitigate air pollution, and prevent stormwater runoff.

Tree care sessions involve community volunteers, alongside HII crew cleaning-up, aerating and mulching tree beds and planting bulbs in the tree bed soil all while spending quality time with your community and mother nature. Tree Care Tuesdays will take place every Tuesday from April 22nd 2014- September 2nd 2014. Sessions will occur from 10am-12pm with one session a month at 5pm-7pm.

Human Impacts Institute will provide supplies for tree care. Participants should bring water bottles, sunblock, a hat, and any other personal items. Participants under 18 need to be accompanied by a guardian.

Please note: Tree Care Tuesdays meet on Tuesdays between 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m., from April 22nd through September 2nd. On April 22, May 20, June 17 and July 15, Tree Care Tuesdays will meet 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Space is limited. Registration is recommended for individuals and required for groups. Please register by email with your full name and contact information, and specify “Tree Care Tuesday”, the specific date, as well as how many people will be attending in your registration.

If you suffer migraines or back or neck pain, the instructor will advice you on the specific technique to alleviate the area of concern.

On this east-west walk you will see a hidden bench that tells time, miniature boats powered by the wind, a magnificent sculpture celebrating fresh water, and much more. The route involves a few stairs.

Tours take place rain or shine, except in extreme weather conditions (heavy rain, sustained winds of 30mph or more, snowstorms, and a wind chill below 25 or heat index above 95 degrees).

Groups of seven or more must schedule a custom tour three weeks in advance at tours@centralparknyc.org.

The CityParks Seniors Fitness program offers free tennis lessons, yoga instruction, and fitness walking in 14 parks across the city. The program aims to keep neighborhood parks a great place for community activity. Even in moderate amounts, exercise can help us feel better, maintain or lose weight, reduce risk of heart disease and diabetes, and minimize the symptoms of arthritis. No matter how old we are, our bodies always benefit from physical activity. All equipment and instruction is provided free of charge.

Spring Kids Fest is our favorite way to kick off a fresh season of free and fun programming in 2014! Join us in Madison Square Park with our friends at Time Out New York Kids on Saturday, May 17th from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. for Spring Kids Fest. Free fun indeed! Everything is free for your little ones from snacks, live shows, arts and crafts, games, face painting, storytelling and so much more.

The main stage presents shakin’ performances by Mil’s Trills (1:00 p.m.), Story Pirates (12:00 p.m.) and Field Station: Dinosaurs (11:00 a.m.). In the northern reflecting pool Songs for Seeds will be jammin’ out at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
