Born in Brooklyn, Harry Murphy (1914-1993) was a founding member of New York Road Runners in 1958 and co-founded the Prospect Park Track Club (PPTC) in 1970. A sign maker by trade, Murphy painted countless signs for NYRR events, earning the nickname "The Brush." As a runner, coach, and mentor, Murphy is remembered by PPTC members for his innovative workouts and for helping many to develop a love for running. Those runners who did not have the privilege of knowing Murphy before he passed away in 1993 can celebrate his legacy on the trails of Van Cortlandt Park at this race.

Please join us for the 31st annual Medieval Festival in Fort Tryon Park.

This festival brings to life the customs and spirit of the Middle Ages. Fort Tryon Park is transformed into a medieval market town decorated with bright banners and processional flags. Performers, guests and festival goers dress in medieval costume. Visitors are greeted by authentic period music, dance, magic, and minstrels, as well as jugglers and jesters. The afternoon is concluded with a thrilling joust between four knights on horseback. Costumed vendors will be on hand to demonstrate and sell a wide variety of medieval crafts as well as food and drink. Experience the culture of a bygone era against the backdrop of the Cloisters museum and the Hudson River during autumn's peak. We invite all ages to join us for this unique experience.

The festival is held in the area surrounding the world famous Cloisters, a magnificent museum of medieval art located in northern Manhattan.

The event is free but Medieval crafts, clothing, etc., and food will be available for purchase.

Please note: There will be no ATM's on site at the festival.

Most areas are wheelchair accessible; however, persons with mobility issues may experience difficulty maneuvering on lawn areas.

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Starting last year on Alice Austen’s birthday, the Alice Austen House began a project documenting the grounds and waterfront from Austen’s home, Clear Comfort. Each day since then the house, grounds, and activities of the site have been documented, much like Alice Austen did over a hundred years ago. The museum will present an installation of nearly 200 snapshots capturing the daily life of this historic site and invite visitors to participate in the project.

Alice Austen Everyday is on view September 26 – December 30, 2015 and shown in conjunction with the museum’s 30th Anniversary exhibition “Becoming Clear Comfort: History of a Landmark," tracing the history of the house. Recently tagged images will also be on view, presented on an iPad in the gallery. Exhibition s on view during museum hours: Tuesday - Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm.

Be like Alice Austen: Upload images taken during the day to social media using the hashtag #aliceausteneveryday. Not on social media? Email photos with title, date, and name of photographer to info@aliceausten.org to be included in the project.

Cover Photo Contest: Submit a #aliceausteneveryday photo of the house and grounds of Clear Comfort to info@aliceausten.org by November 1, 2015. The selected winner’s photo will be used as the Alice Austen House’s Facebook Cover Photo.

The Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Youth Track Club has been established to give back to the community through the sport we all love: track & field. No prior experience is needed and all children ages 7 - 17 years old are encouraged to join!

The Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Youth Track Club will strive to develop and create a world class and progressive tradition within the Track and Field/Cross Country Athletics community. Practices will include training in cross country, sprinting events, middle distance and distance events, field events (including jumping and throwing events), and much more.

With our universal belief in athletics as a stepping stone for success, we feel that the Ocean Breeze Wave Runners can promote, develop, and empower our youth through physical training and mental discipline. Through hard work, motivation, and dedication, members will be able to achieve their goals and, ultimately, cultivate a foundation for a successful lifestyle. We believe, with these skills, the children of the Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Track Club will develop good practices and improve their character and confidence.

Our mission as a Track Club is to encourage young athletes to prepare rigorously for all challenges, develop a trust and belief in themselves and others, believes they can accomplish anything with the correct mindset and effort, and consistently train for personal and team improvement.

For a breath of fresh air, take your workouts outdoors. Parks are becoming a logical alternative environment for those who want to add variety to their work outs, or who just don't like the gym. And, it's an affordable way to increase physical activity opportunities, because there's nothing special to build.

The act of exploring, recording and recounting is central to the artistic practice of many artists. The fall exhibition, Field Notes, brings together three artists—Matthew Friday, David McQueen and Michelle Stuart—whose projects in Glyndor Gallery and on the grounds will encourage visitors to discover connections of their own. The Sunroom Project Space hosts two site-specific installations, both by this year’s Van Lier Visual Artist Fellows: Julian Chams has created tactile, photo-based assemblages of memories, feelings and experiences, seeking to soften our information-laden world; Beatrice Glow’s installation converts the Sun Porch into a retelling of trans-Pacific histories, using sights and scents that reference the spice trade.

Join NYC Parks for the opening reception of the Arsenal Gallery's new exhibition Swampland: Photographs by Ruth Wetzel. New York artist Ruth Wetzel spends hours trekking through wetlands in waders photographing magnified views of diverse plant life and ecosystems found in New York. She isolates intimate details in the swamps—plumes of sediment, verdant foliage, and colorful reflections—allowing abstract forms to shine. Swampland includes over 30 small and large format photographs of wetlands around her upstate Stone Ridge, New York home, as well as a newly created series of photographs documenting New York City’s Alley Pond Park in Queens, Prospect Park Lake, and Spuyten Duyvil Creek. Swampland is on view during regular gallery hours October 7 through November 13, 2015.

Alice Austen House's 30th anniversary exhibition brings to light the history of the museum’s National and New York City Landmark building, tracing its path from one-room Dutch farmhouse in the 1690s, to Victorian Gothic cottage and home to early American photographer Alice Austen (1866-1952), to protected landmark, to public museum. Presented upon the museum’s 30th anniversary and as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the NYC Landmarks Law, this exhibition explores the Alice Austen House’s significance in New York City history and tells the fascinating story of the saving of the house from threatened destruction.
