A celebration of the summer season on Governors Island, GIA's Family Festival is a free and creative arts and harbor education-focused jamboree.

Last year GIA's Family Festival drew more than 5,000 visitors from all over the tri-state region, all of whom enjoyed entertaining shows by The Maybelles, Astrograss for Kids, and Arm-of-the-Sea Theater among others, and partook in the fun and imaginative activities hosted by a variety of local arts and educational organizations. Join GIA this year as we again jam-pack opening day with exciting arts & crafts activities, invigorating music and theatrical performances, and innovative educational games about the diverse ecology as well as the rich history of the New York New Jersey harbor.

Travel back to when circus traditions were born and witness incredible acts that would have had the villagers chattering for days! The courageous mid-air flips and catches of a man on the trapeze. A captivating contortionist whose flexibility is as impressive as her steadfast poise. An agile, adept acrobat and her strapping suitors. A swaying wire act of sure-footed strength and stability. The dizzying delights of a daring inventor in his tumbling, twirling hoop. The stunning, soaring beauty of a pair on aerial straps and a woman held aloft by hanging silks.
