Wayfinding: 100 NYC Public Sculptures is a site-specific project that invites the public to embark on guided journeys through NYC to find public sculptures.

Phunsombatlert researched all existing public sculptures in New York City and identified 100 sites to be incorporated in his final work. He then created small drawings of each sculpture and developed directional signs and maps that resemble standard U.S. National Park Service signage. The artwork is made up of signage for 100 public sculptures that contain distances drawn from GPS coordinates between each sculpture and the group of wooden posts outside of the Queens Museum at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.

The audience experiences their own journey to each original sculpture. However, whether visitors view the original sculptures or their drawn representational counterparts, this project calls attention to the very specific, transformative space between object and audience. The exhibition questions how the audience’s journey from the sign to original artwork can be a work of art in itself. Visitors are invited to see the online map. Wayfinding: 100 NYC Public Sculptures is an exciting and rare instance where NYC Parks’ temporary public art program will merge with and inform the permanent sculptures in New York City’s collection.

Finally, we will join in a circle again and those who choose to can share what has been created. This workshop is a celebration of human and plant life! All ages welcome.

Little Red’s Hood is a fresh retelling of the classic “Little Red Riding Hood” tale updated with a modern sensibility that will appeal to kids. The production features a dozen, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre.

Like many of today’s children, Little Red is a smart, young city slicker who is too focused on her smartphone to notice her surroundings. Wulfric is a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth. When Little Red travels from New York City to the country to deliver some cupcakes to her Grandma, she encounters a colorful cast of characters as Wulfric the Wolf tries to head her off at the pass.

Little Red’s Hood is directed by Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre’s Artistic Director Bruce Cannon and written by Liam Hurley.

The CityParks PuppetMobile is the oldest continually operating company of its kind in the country, which presents free performances and puppet-making workshops in neighborhood parks, recreation centers and schools throughout New York City.

The Dessoff Choirs, one of New York’s oldest singing ensembles, celebrates spring with a lively concert of folksongs, madrigals, and spirituals.
Drawing on the European tradition, Dessoff sings five English folksongs set by Ralph Vaughan Williams, who travelled the British Isles collecting these tunes, and crystallized them for all time in his lyrical style. The group celebrates America’s own musical past with arrangements of moving, powerful, and joyful African-American spirituals arranged by giants in the field, from William Dawson to Moses Hogan. To honor the rich diversity of northern Manhattan, the program also includes a group of Latin American pieces, combining exciting rhythms and beautiful melodies.
The stunning setting for this FREE concert will be Billings Lawn in Fort Tryon Park in Northern Manhattan, overlooking the Hudson River. Enter Fort Tryon Park through the Southern entrance at Margaret Corbin Circle and walk west and down hill through the Heather Garden to the Billings Lawn.
