Every Sunday (except for Saturday, August 1), you can catch up to two hours of standup performed by some of comedy's most innovative and talked about artists. It's all for New Yorkers, and it's all free.

Our shows have been covered by the NYTimes, listed in the NYPost as a "Hot Weekend Pick," and named "Best Weekend Entertainment Bet" by Time Out NY/WNBC. Check www.nylaughs.org and www.laughterinthepark.org for details on this week's headliners.

NYLaughs, Inc. is a unique non-profit that aims to change the cultural landscape of the Big Apple through humor. From parks to streets and even subways, we provide New Yorkers laughter free of charge with our public live comedy shows. We want to celebrate the comic arts. We also want to make New York a better place by cultivating community, inspiring our audiences, and making the City a happier / healthier place through laughter.

We are excited to announce that native New Yorker, The Honorable Mitchell J. Silver, New York City Parks Commissioner will be among the guests invited to tell the welcoming jokes of our 9th season this year! He makes his comedy debut! We welcome him to the fun!

In this 18th century play by Oliver Goldsmith, wealthy countryman Mr. Hardcastle arranges for his daughter Kate to meet Charles Marlow, the son of a rich Londoner, hoping the pair will marry. Unfortunately, Marlow is nervous around upper-class women, yet the complete opposite around working-class women. On his first acquaintance with Kate, the latter realises she will have to pretend to be 'common', or Marlow will not woo her. Thus Kate 'stoops to conquer', by posing as a maid, hoping to put Marlow at his ease so he falls for her.

The mission of Hudson Warehouse is to present the classics in exciting productions inspired by our past and relevant to our present day.

Enjoy vibrantly danceable live music accompanied by spectacular sunsets over the Hudson River!

Founded by Greek-born singer, film scorer, and composer Magda Giannikou, Banda Magda moves from samba to French chanson, from Greek folk tunes to Colombian cumbia and Afro-Peruvian lando. Their songs capture the best of mid-century pop ballads and cinematic arranging, drawing on the band’s global background and unchained musicality. Live, Banda Magda bursts with humor and quirky sensibility, powered by a unflagging energy. This group of close musical friends turn Giannikou’s songs into engaging romps that have won them a spot with Carnegie Hall Musical Explorers Series, as well as performances at discerning venues and festivals such as Webster Hall, Irving Plaza, The Kennedy Center, The Jefferson Center, Celebrate Brooklyn, Jazz al Parque, St. Moritz Festival Da Jazz, and the Chicago World Music Festival.

Academy Award nominee Sam Waterston (Newsroom, Law & Order, The Public’s King Lear) returns in The Tempest, Shakespeare’s classic about young love, old enemies and the eternal magic of storytelling. Exiled to a fantastical island, Prospero unleashes a churning storm to shipwreck the traitor brother who stole his throne and settle the score once and for all. But bitter revenge is upended by newfound love in this sublime masterpiece that proves we are all “such stuff as dreams are made on.” Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Romeo and Juliet, Our Lady of Kibeho, If/Then, Next to Normal) directs.

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Watch classics and soon-to-be classics handpicked by NYC Parks' Arts, Culture and Fun series.

The quintessential "backstage" musical 42nd Street traces the history of a Broadway musical comedy, from casting call to opening night. Warner Baxter plays famed director Julian Marsh, who despite failing health is determined to stage one last great production, "Pretty Lady." Others involved include "Pretty Lady" star Dorothy Brock (Bebe Daniels); Dorothy's "sugar daddy" (Guy Kibbee), who finances the show; her true love Pat (George Brent); leading man Billy Lawlor (Dick Powell); and starry-eyed chorus girl Peggy Sawyer (Ruby Keeler). It practically goes without saying that Dorothy twists her ankle the night before the premiere, forcing Julian Marsh to put chorine Peggy into the lead: "You're going out there a youngster, but you've got to come back a star!" Delightfully corny, with hilarious wisecracking support from the likes of Ginger Rogers, Una Merkel, and George E. Stone. 42nd Street is perhaps the most famous of Warners' early-1930s Busby Berkeley musicals. Based on the novel by Bradford Ropes, 42nd Street is highlighted by such grandiose musical setpieces as "Shuffle Off to Buffalo," "Young and Healthy," and of course the title song. Nearly fifty years after its premiere, it was successfully revived as a Broadway musical with Tammy Grimes and Jerry Orbach. - Paraphrase from Swank website.

Company members of The Isadora Duncan Dance Company will lead these free public classes underwritten by the Fort Tryon Park Trust. Consistent participants will be invited to perform as part of the dance performance on August 22nd. Please note: There is no class on Saturday, August 1st.
