Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Starting last year on Alice Austen’s birthday, the Alice Austen House began a project documenting the grounds and waterfront from Austen’s home, Clear Comfort. Each day since then the house, grounds, and activities of the site have been documented, much like Alice Austen did over a hundred years ago. The museum will present an installation of nearly 200 snapshots capturing the daily life of this historic site and invite visitors to participate in the project.

Alice Austen Everyday is on view September 26 – December 30, 2015 and shown in conjunction with the museum’s 30th Anniversary exhibition “Becoming Clear Comfort: History of a Landmark," tracing the history of the house. Recently tagged images will also be on view, presented on an iPad in the gallery. Exhibition s on view during museum hours: Tuesday - Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm.

Be like Alice Austen: Upload images taken during the day to social media using the hashtag #aliceausteneveryday. Not on social media? Email photos with title, date, and name of photographer to info@aliceausten.org to be included in the project.

The Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Youth Track Club has been established to give back to the community through the sport we all love: track & field. No prior experience is needed and all children ages 7 - 17 years old are encouraged to join!

The Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Youth Track Club will strive to develop and create a world class and progressive tradition within the Track and Field/Cross Country Athletics community. Practices will include training in cross country, sprinting events, middle distance and distance events, field events (including jumping and throwing events), and much more.

With our universal belief in athletics as a stepping stone for success, we feel that the Ocean Breeze Wave Runners can promote, develop, and empower our youth through physical training and mental discipline. Through hard work, motivation, and dedication, members will be able to achieve their goals and, ultimately, cultivate a foundation for a successful lifestyle. We believe, with these skills, the children of the Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Track Club will develop good practices and improve their character and confidence.

Our mission as a Track Club is to encourage young athletes to prepare rigorously for all challenges, develop a trust and belief in themselves and others, believes they can accomplish anything with the correct mindset and effort, and consistently train for personal and team improvement.

Open Run is a new community-based initiative that launched in St. Mary’s Park in the Bronx on National Running Day, June 3, 2015. Through this initiative, NYRR is working with community leaders to bring free weekly runs to local neighborhood parks all over NYC.

Help NYC Parks set a new Guinness World Record for most trees counted in a single day on Saturday, October 10. This will be the first attempt ever for this record, and we want to set the bar high!

Volunteers who map the most blocks citywide, most blocks in each borough, longest distance, most trees citywide, most sneakers citywide, and the biggest tree of the day, will each win a free pair of Broadway Tickets!

How to participate

There are three ways you can help us count street trees to set the record:

1. Have you already attended a TreesCount! event this summer? Then you qualify to check out a wheel on Oct 10 to map as many blocks as you can! RSVP to one of the below locations to reserve your wheel.

2. If you can't attend an event beforehand, census partner groups will also be hosting events all over the city on the big day, and we'd love to get you rolling! Find events here.

3. Already an Independent Mapper? Check out a wheel from one of our events or loaning hubs before Saturday and get a headstart on your block count!

Come discover the fall colors with us and help us and make Oct 10 count!

The act of exploring, recording and recounting is central to the artistic practice of many artists. The fall exhibition, Field Notes, brings together three artists—Matthew Friday, David McQueen and Michelle Stuart—whose projects in Glyndor Gallery and on the grounds will encourage visitors to discover connections of their own. The Sunroom Project Space hosts two site-specific installations, both by this year’s Van Lier Visual Artist Fellows: Julian Chams has created tactile, photo-based assemblages of memories, feelings and experiences, seeking to soften our information-laden world; Beatrice Glow’s installation converts the Sun Porch into a retelling of trans-Pacific histories, using sights and scents that reference the spice trade.

Mistaken identity leads to delightful mayhem in the Bard’s classic play about two sets of twins separated by stormy seas. When one pair dares to trespass into a foreign city to find the other, the comedy of errors begins and the long-lost brothers must overcome wrongful imprisonment, angry wives and hilarious confusion on their journey to a joyful reunion. This uproariously funny comedy will tour the five boroughs followed by a limited three-week engagement at The Public as part of The Mobile Shakespeare Unit, which strengthens community engagement with the arts by bringing free, world-class productions of Shakespeare to communities all across New York City.

For Buffy Summers (Kristy Swanson), nothing is the same after she meets Merrick Jamison-Smythe (Donald Sutherland). Merrick tells the teen that he's been sent to train her to fight vampires, and he proves himself by displaying his supernatural powers. Buffy is a quick study, and soon takes fellow student Oliver Pike (Luke Perry) under her wing, repeatedly saving him from fierce bloodsuckers. But, when a very dangerous vampire (Rutger Hauer) gets rambunctious, she must go to war again. Rated PG-13.

The Wiz re-tells the story of The Wizard of Oz, but is a classic in its own right. The movie stars a young, African-American kindergarten teacher named Dorothy who has "never been below 125th Street". After chasing her dog in a snowstorm, she finds herself in Oz, a place that looks just like 1970's NYC. Imagine that! Follow her as she struggles to find her way back home. Rated G.
