Join Farmer Yon and gardeners as they explore the food and culture of the African Diaspora. One of the most interesting things about the food of the African Diaspora is how closely it connects the people who prepare it, often without them even realizing it. There are several characteristics that almost all cuisines of the African Diaspora share: seasoning techniques; cooking techniques such as stewing and frying; the prevalence of starchy mashes or porridges eaten with stews and soups or on their own; among African, Latin and Caribbean cuisines, ingredients are nearly identical, most likely due to the similarity in climate. The distinctive ingredients of global southern cuisine, as well as the styles of cooking them, have been common for centuries in Africa.

Academy Award nominee Sam Waterston (Newsroom, Law & Order, The Public’s King Lear) returns in The Tempest, Shakespeare’s classic about young love, old enemies and the eternal magic of storytelling. Exiled to a fantastical island, Prospero unleashes a churning storm to shipwreck the traitor brother who stole his throne and settle the score once and for all. But bitter revenge is upended by newfound love in this sublime masterpiece that proves we are all “such stuff as dreams are made on.” Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Romeo and Juliet, Our Lady of Kibeho, If/Then, Next to Normal) directs.

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Join us for a journey back in time to the elite "Bond Street area", home to Astors, Vanderbilts, Delanos, and the Tredwells, who lived in the Merchant’s House. You’ll walk the footsteps of these wealthy mercantile families whose elegant Federal mansions once lined the tranquil cobblestone streets.

The tour passes by iconic landmarks such as the imposing Colonnade Row, the Public Theater, and The Cooper Union, where Lincoln gave his "right makes might" speech. On the bustling Astor Place, imagine the drama of events that led to the Opera House riot of 1849, among the bloodiest in American history. And, visit the site of the scandalous 1857 Bond Street murder of Harvey Burdell, one of the City’s still unsolved crimes.

Awesome Asana Yoga is an hour-long exercise in body stretching and mind cleansing taught by registered yoga teacher Chelsea Best. As Chelsea says, “Awesome Asana offers a unique yogic journey, linking breath with movement in a meditative Vinyasa Flow class style designed to awaken the spirit and bring the body and mind back to a place of peace.” The class is Open Level Vinyasa, and is moderately challenging.

MJM’s Awesome Asana is part of Chelsea’s “Localize Yoga” project, which aims to make yoga affordable and accessible – to present it “as a possibility, rather than as a luxury” – to the denizens of upper Manhattan. The class is $5, and mats, should you need one, are provided.

HeartBeat comes back to life in Fort Greene Park for Make Music New York!

Join Stereotank + Neil Nisbet + Diego Rioja for a jam session at the Fort Greene Park. HeartSeat will be geared with drums, pipes and xylophone keys: custom-built musical instruments from the original installation HeartBeat.

HeartSeat is a striking red sculptural seat fabricated from a repurposed water tank. This work was originally commissioned for the juried Times Square Valentine Heart Design Competition. In its original orientation, the work was a participatory installation in the form of a massive heart glowing to the rhythm of a strong, deep and low frequency heartbeat sound and visitors were encouraged to move around and engage with it by playing various percussion instruments. Now, the once united heart is split in half in order to form innovative public seating.

Stereotank is founded by architects Marcelo Ertorteguy and Sara Valente, and is dedicated towards creating a fusion between architecture, music, design and environmental science with their public art projects.

This exhibition was originally commissioned by the Times Square Alliance and The Architectural League of New York. This event is presented by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership.

Henry IV, Part 1 depicts a span of history that begins with Hotspur's battle at Homildon in Northumberland against the Douglas late in 1402, and ends with the defeat of the rebels at Shrewsbury in the middle of 1403.

The mission of Hudson Warehouse is to present the classics in exciting productions inspired by our past and relevant to our present day. We want to educate the novice and enthrall the well-versed. We embrace the traditional and innovative, the classical and the modern classic. Through the dedication, passion and intelligence of all our theater artists, we bring these works to life. When our work elicits a true emotional response from an audience member, this experience reaffirms that theatre is a "ware" that is essential to daily life.

Coach Carter tells the real life story of Ken Carter, coach of the high school basketball team in Richmond, CA. Once the star of the basketball team himself, Coach Carter feels there's more to life than just basketball. As he starts to turn his basketball team around, he is alarmed to learn that his team's grades have slipped. When he locks them out of the gym in order to study, not everyone agrees with his methods. Rated PG-13: parents' discretion is advised.
