Remembering is both a collective and a personal activity. In this exhibition, both are on display in relation to two World’s Fairs that took place in Flushing, Queens in 1939/40 and 1964/65. Within this exhibition, collective memory is represented by shared experiences of the Fairs and personal memory by the memorabilia drawn from the collections of people who attended and fondly recall the Fairs. While these Fairs were global in scope, their attendees were overwhelmingly local, many residing in Queens. All items on display in the exhibition have either been donated or loaned to the Queens Historical Society by those residents of Queens who attended the Fairs.

MASTODON
Art is a cyclical beast. The same can easily be said of Grammy Award nominated hard rock juggernaut Mastodon. The group’s four members recognize the importance of life’s omnipresent cycles on their sixth full-length album, Once More ‘Round the Sun. The band orbits around themes of loss and rebirth, twirling a sonic spiral of its signature robust riffing, hypnotically haunting soundscapes, triage of dynamic voices, and thundering seismic grooves. At the same time, this particular collection proves personal for Brann Dailor, Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher, and Troy Sanders, with the very title saying something slightly different for each member.

CLUTCH
Maryland rockers Clutch have been pushing the boundaries that define heavy rock music since the 4 original members got together in high school. Having been tagged hard rock, blues rock, southern stoner rock and alternative metal by press and fans across the world alike it is safe to say one thing… “What you see is what you get”, and what you get is a musical force that has been best described as the quintessential American rock band.
