Join us this summer at the Wyckoff farmhouse for a natural dyeing workshop. This workshop is part of a series of six workshops for adults (and teens) in what we’re calling “creative homesteading”. Get your hands dirty in the garden, experiment with natural dyes, learn about herbal medicine, preserve your harvest, and more at the oldest house in New York!

Did you know your garden is already growing a wealth of materials that you can use to beautify other things? Come learn how to take the otherwise inedible plants in your garden and dye various fibers. We will use plant materials grown specifically for dyeing as well as less commonly used dye plants. This workshop will be an exploration of the potential and uses of natural materials.

Advance (free) registration is required. For more information and to register, please visit wyckoffmuseum.org/workshops.

The play is set during the latter days of the Roman Empire and tells the fictional story of Titus, a general in the Roman army, who is engaged in a cycle of revenge with Tamora, Queen of the Goths. It is Shakespeare's bloodiest and most violent work and traditionally was one of his least respected plays. Although it was extremely popular in its day, by the later seventeenth century it had fallen out of favour. In the Victorian era, it was disapproved of primarily because of what was considered to be a distasteful use of graphic violence, but from around the middle of the twentieth century its reputation began to improve.

Once a free and open society, Vienna is bitterly divided between high morals and the greed of commerce. Disguised as a monk, the duke wanders the land, prying into the daily lives of his subjects. When his deputy sentences Claudio to death, the virtue and purity of his sister, Isabella, is the price she must pay to save her brother’s life. Measure for Measure is directed by artistic director Stephen Burdman.

“All The Ladies Say” is a film that highlights the lives of six iconic female street dancers from San Jose, Atlanta, Miami and Chicago, who have carved a niche in the physically challenging, male dominated breakdance world. International dancers not only make appearances but also add their two cents about life as a B Girl in the Hip-hop world.

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Awesome Asana Yoga is an hour-long exercise in body stretching and mind cleansing taught by registered yoga teacher Chelsea Best. As Chelsea says, “Awesome Asana offers a unique yogic journey, linking breath with movement in a meditative Vinyasa Flow class style designed to awaken the spirit and bring the body and mind back to a place of peace.” The class is Open Level Vinyasa, and is moderately challenging.

MJM’s Awesome Asana is part of Chelsea’s “Localize Yoga” project, which aims to make yoga affordable and accessible – to present it “as a possibility, rather than as a luxury” – to the denizens of upper Manhattan. The class is $5, and mats, should you need one, are provided.

Guest curator Andrew Ingall selects five recent films by independent filmmakers who represent a diverse group in terms of geography, genre and form. Jamie Stuart’s Eternal Storm (2012) recovers glimmers of hope from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Kombit (2014), by Jeff Reichert and Farihah Zaman, documents a micro-garden movement that combats post-earthquake hunger in Haiti. In the award-winning One Child (2014), Zijian Mu trains his lens on the tragic effect of the Sichuan earthquake on families following the one-child policy. A Native American Cajun community’s land disappears from under their homes due to the exploitation of the surrounding marsh, in Jason Ferris and Rebecca Marshall Ferris’s Can’t Stop the Water (2013). And in Glory at Sea (2008), an acclaimed early work by Oscar-nominated director Benh Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild), a group of mourners build a boat from the debris of New Orleans in an allegorical journey from Hades.

Inspired by the legends of classic rhythm-n-blues and the street corner doo-wop group harmonies that gave birth to rock-n-roll, The Tee-Tones are bringing back that incredible sound we all grew up on but few left can imitate. The Tee-Tones are a four member a cappella singing group from New York City (when not accompanied by their upright jazz bassist or full band), specializing in the great, classic sounds of the doo-wop and Motown eras everyone knows and loves.

The Tee-Tones combine soulful group harmony with passionate vocal performances of the classics from the great R&B groups of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

All those attending the concert are advised to bring chairs and/or blankets.
