Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that has evolved over centuries into an exciting combination of martial arts, dance, music, and acrobatics. Some of capoeira’s benefits include strength, flexibility, stamina, overall fitness and confidence. Benefits of capoeira for kids include promoting social interaction and sense of belonging, building confidence, discipline and self esteem, promoting a healthy lifestyle so children become active, and healthy, and develop cultural awareness and tolerance. Wear comfortable clothing.

Capoeira was developed in Brazil, but its history extends to Africa and tribes from Angola. Slaves living on Brazilian Plantations who weren’t allowed to openly practice traditional forms of self-defense developed an ingenious method of disguising their training by combining it with dance-like movements, singing, and the rhythms of primitive instruments.

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

What is ppm? Is your soil pH high or low? Find out at this hands-on workshop where we will examine “live” soil test results from actual soil samples recently submitted by Alliance gardeners.

Next, we’ll review what steps if any, might be considered to remediate contaminated soil and work on a plan for growing healthy plants. If you have not yet brought a soil sample to be tested for lead and pH, please bring up to 3 samples from your garden with you to this workshop. We will also review how to safely take sample soil.

All are welcome. Bring your soil questions!

Henry IV, Part 1 depicts a span of history that begins with Hotspur's battle at Homildon in Northumberland against the Douglas late in 1402, and ends with the defeat of the rebels at Shrewsbury in the middle of 1403.

The mission of Hudson Warehouse is to present the classics in exciting productions inspired by our past and relevant to our present day. We want to educate the novice and enthrall the well-versed. We embrace the traditional and innovative, the classical and the modern classic. Through the dedication, passion and intelligence of all our theater artists, we bring these works to life. When our work elicits a true emotional response from an audience member, this experience reaffirms that theatre is a "ware" that is essential to daily life.

Come celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with NYC Parks!

Endless Abilities is to empower the lives of the physically disabled. Regardless of disability, age, gender, location, access, and wealth, we seek to educate and inspire our audiences through the power of sport. Confronting physical disability can present many challenges, but support from communities and advancement in technology has started a new era of ability. All across the country, more and more individuals are overcoming their disability through sports. Whether you've been an amputee for forty years, or in a wheelchair for forty minutes, this film will show that you have what it takes to become physically active.

Academy Award nominee Sam Waterston (Newsroom, Law & Order, The Public’s King Lear) returns in The Tempest, Shakespeare’s classic about young love, old enemies and the eternal magic of storytelling. Exiled to a fantastical island, Prospero unleashes a churning storm to shipwreck the traitor brother who stole his throne and settle the score once and for all. But bitter revenge is upended by newfound love in this sublime masterpiece that proves we are all “such stuff as dreams are made on.” Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Romeo and Juliet, Our Lady of Kibeho, If/Then, Next to Normal) directs.

Wheelchair softball was born over 25 years ago in the Midwest by a few individuals with spinal cord injuries and lower extremity impairments, who still wanted to enjoy America's greatest pastime. These individuals needed to develop a way of playing that would allow easy maneuverability in a wheelchair and keep the fast pace of softball. Thus, a new game was born and played on hard surfaces, such as a parking lots, with a 16-inch softball, which allows wheelchair players to keep one hand one the wheelchair while catching a softball without a glove.
