Awesome Asana Yoga is an hour-long exercise in body stretching and mind cleansing taught by registered yoga teacher Chelsea Best. As Chelsea says, “Awesome Asana offers a unique yogic journey, linking breath with movement in a meditative Vinyasa Flow class style designed to awaken the spirit and bring the body and mind back to a place of peace.” The class is Open Level Vinyasa, and is moderately challenging.

MJM’s Awesome Asana is part of Chelsea’s “Localize Yoga” project, which aims to make yoga affordable and accessible – to present it “as a possibility, rather than as a luxury” – to the denizens of upper Manhattan. The class is $5, and mats, should you need one, are provided.

NYC Parks and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment present free movie screenings from the Queens World Film Festival! Nine short films, mixing it up between animation and narrative - reminding us that it's not about fitting in, it's about finding where you fit.

About the Queens World Film Festival (QWFF):

Turning five in 2015, QWFF screens challenging films representative of quality independent cinema from around the world and around the corner.

Films Screened (In Order of Show Time):

Thanks (12 minutes)

A lost girl approaches a shopkeeper. Hilarity ensues.

Hero Pose (13 minutes)

The Hero Pose is a short film about Mia, an eight year old girl and her father, Joe, who is trying to sell a car. As the afternoon progresses, Mia and Joe uncover a lot about their relationship and end up connecting with one another in an unusual way.

Wild Woman (12 minutes)

The Wild Woman: Legend or reality? This quirky mockumentary takes you on a quest to solve a modern mystery. All roles are played by Joy Shatz, who is also the director, writer and producer.

Hanging by a Thread (Animation) (9 minutes)

It's the future, and humanity appears to be but a memory, existing only in scattered pieces. That is until a pillow's needlepoint rendering of three individuals, collectively known as the Clothespin Freaks, finds the spark of life and surfaces to fulfill their destinies, hinted at by their names. Once aware of their purpose, the group begins assembling the remains of humanity they see all around them.

7 Day Gig (10 minutes)

Last week, Jay's dad passed away. At a loss about the loss, Jay, a Guamanian-Romanian-Catholic-Jew, decides to honor his dad's life by sitting shiva, the seven-day Jewish mourning tradition. The only problem is, he lives in sunny Los Angeles where he just can't seem to make any friends. After failing to befriend his neighbors, he puts an ad on Craigslist looking for people to attend his shiva. His ad is answered by a chicken who wants to be an actor, a 12 year-old punk who wants to be a Rabbi, and an old man who looks like he might not live through the week. This is a film about coping with the absurdity of death in a tradition you don't fully understand. 7 Day Gig: a comedy about loss.

Something Left, Something Taken (Animation) (10 minutes)

A dark comedy about a vacationing couple's encounter with a man they believe to be the Zodiac Killer.

lonely Eros (1 minute)

In the desolate landscape of the American Northeast, Carol, an alluring woman living on the fringe, carries out her quiet routine. Even as she lands an interview for a job as a waitress, she gets a call for the work she can't refuse. In the ensuing racy encounter, her true identity is exposed.

Beyoutiful (4 minutes)

Challenging the rules of gender through cuteness and color.

Between Times (Animation) (15 minutes)

From the wall of a small town bakery, a cuckoo clock recounts a day where bread was sliced one second thick, lovers fell in sync and time rarely flowed at an even rate.

Know Before You Go:

You should come before 6:30 p.m. to get your spot. Please bring your own picnic blanket or chair, as there is a limited supply of chairs reserved for seniors or people with disabilities. Food is OK, but no alcohol. Reservations are not taken, so space is available on a first come first served basis. All are welcome!

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Starting last year on Alice Austen’s birthday, the Alice Austen House began a project documenting the grounds and waterfront from Austen’s home, Clear Comfort. Each day since then the house, grounds, and activities of the site have been documented, much like Alice Austen did over a hundred years ago. The museum will present an installation of nearly 200 snapshots capturing the daily life of this historic site and invite visitors to participate in the project.

Alice Austen Everyday is on view September 26 – December 30, 2015 and shown in conjunction with the museum’s 30th Anniversary exhibition “Becoming Clear Comfort: History of a Landmark," tracing the history of the house. Recently tagged images will also be on view, presented on an iPad in the gallery. Exhibition s on view during museum hours: Tuesday - Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm.

Be like Alice Austen: Upload images taken during the day to social media using the hashtag #aliceausteneveryday. Not on social media? Email photos with title, date, and name of photographer to info@aliceausten.org to be included in the project.

Cover Photo Contest: Submit a #aliceausteneveryday photo of the house and grounds of Clear Comfort to info@aliceausten.org by November 1, 2015. The selected winner’s photo will be used as the Alice Austen House’s Facebook Cover Photo.

The Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Youth Track Club will strive to develop and create a world class and progressive tradition within the Track and Field/Cross Country Athletics community. Practices will include training in cross country, sprinting events, middle distance and distance events, field events (including jumping and throwing events), and much more.

With our universal belief in athletics as a stepping stone for success, we feel that the Ocean Breeze Wave Runners can promote, develop, and empower our youth through physical training and mental discipline. Through hard work, motivation, and dedication, members will be able to achieve their goals and, ultimately, cultivate a foundation for a successful lifestyle. We believe, with these skills, the children of the Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Track Club will develop good practices and improve their character and confidence.

Our mission as a Track Club is to encourage young athletes to prepare rigorously for all challenges, develop a trust and belief in themselves and others, believes they can accomplish anything with the correct mindset and effort, and consistently train for personal and team improvement.

As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O'Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named "Rocky." Rated R.

Join NYC Parks and the New York City Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment for movies under the stars!

Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania, Dracula's lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free from meddling from the human world. Over-protective of his teenage daughter, Mavis, Dracula fabricates tales of elaborate dangers to dissuade her adventurous spirit. As a haven for Mavis, he opens the Hotel Transylvania, where his daughter and some of the world's most famous monsters Frankenstein and his bride, the Mumm, a family of werewolves, and more can kick back in safety and peace. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis. Rated PG.
