Join us this summer at the Wyckoff farmhouse for a natural dyeing workshop. This workshop is part of a series of six workshops for adults (and teens) in what we’re calling “creative homesteading”. Get your hands dirty in the garden, experiment with natural dyes, learn about herbal medicine, preserve your harvest, and more at the oldest house in New York!

Did you know your garden is already growing a wealth of materials that you can use to beautify other things? Come learn how to take the otherwise inedible plants in your garden and dye various fibers. We will use plant materials grown specifically for dyeing as well as less commonly used dye plants. This workshop will be an exploration of the potential and uses of natural materials.

Advance (free) registration is required. For more information and to register, please visit wyckoffmuseum.org/workshops.

Three weeklong residencies will each culminate in a free public dance performance on an outdoor stage in the park. Throughout their creative process, participating choreographers will be in full view of the public so that visitors will witness cutting-edge dance and movement in the making, and experience fully-produced performances every Saturday.

As part of the Young Choreographers program, Dance at Socrates will also be pairing aspiring teen choreographers (ages 13-18) with experienced Norte Maar choreographers in residence. We camp to create lasting memories, connect with the natural world, and bond with our families. Camping affords us the opportunity to unplug from the diversions of everyday life and to laugh and play with our families. The Urban Park Rangers celebrate the tradition of camping throughout the spring and summer, and we look forward to welcoming your family.

Space is limited and families are chosen by lottery. To enter your family in the lottery, visit www.nyc.gov/parks/rangers/register on Wednesday, July 29th.

The play is set during the latter days of the Roman Empire and tells the fictional story of Titus, a general in the Roman army, who is engaged in a cycle of revenge with Tamora, Queen of the Goths. It is Shakespeare's bloodiest and most violent work and traditionally was one of his least respected plays. Although it was extremely popular in its day, by the later seventeenth century it had fallen out of favour. In the Victorian era, it was disapproved of primarily because of what was considered to be a distasteful use of graphic violence, but from around the middle of the twentieth century its reputation began to improve.

Once a free and open society, Vienna is bitterly divided between high morals and the greed of commerce. Disguised as a monk, the duke wanders the land, prying into the daily lives of his subjects. When his deputy sentences Claudio to death, the virtue and purity of his sister, Isabella, is the price she must pay to save her brother’s life. Measure for Measure is directed by artistic director Stephen Burdman.

tUnE-yArDs' 2011 record Whokill is hailed as a modern classic, with a lo-fi tapestry of beats, guitars, and horns weaving around her unmistakable, fearlessly belting voice.

The “free associative, raw and radical” (LA Times) experimental hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces rounds out the bill. After emerging a few years ago in a cloud of mystery, they have come to stand for a woozy, patchwork, and altogether intoxicating approach to beat-making.

“All The Ladies Say” is a film that highlights the lives of six iconic female street dancers from San Jose, Atlanta, Miami and Chicago, who have carved a niche in the physically challenging, male dominated breakdance world. Discussions about motherhood, sexual tension, femininity versus masculinity and the rap industry/mainstream images are a few of the themes explored by the documentary’s main characters. International dancers not only make appearances but also add their two cents about life as a B Girl in the Hip-hop world.

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.
