R-U-N? We are! New to the NYRR summer schedule, R-U-N 5K is a unique, social-themed weekday run in Central Park, with pre-race activities starting at 5:30 p.m. and a race start time of 7:00 p.m.

Challenge your friends, runners and non-runners alike—R-U-N?—to join you for 3.1 miles in scenic Central Park. Afterward, head out of the park to continue your evening and enjoy refreshments with your fellow runners at a nearby establishment—a twist to your usual Thursday happy hour timetable. Stay tuned for details about drinks specials at area bars.

Since this is a social-themed 5K, runners, when registering, will be prompted to choose to be corralled by time or by social interests. However, all runners—regardless of their selection—will be timed and will receive marathon credit.

Event hashtag: #r_u_n_5K—use it in your public tweets and Instagrams to be automatically entered into the new NYRR Social Hashtag Challenge to win prizes!

The play is set during the latter days of the Roman Empire and tells the fictional story of Titus, a general in the Roman army, who is engaged in a cycle of revenge with Tamora, Queen of the Goths. It is Shakespeare's bloodiest and most violent work and traditionally was one of his least respected plays. Although it was extremely popular in its day, by the later seventeenth century it had fallen out of favour. In the Victorian era, it was disapproved of primarily because of what was considered to be a distasteful use of graphic violence, but from around the middle of the twentieth century its reputation began to improve.

Nelida Tirado has been recognized around the globe for her intense grace and powerful style. As one of the most dynamic dancers, she shares a deep passion and talent for Spanish/Flamenco and Latin dance. For Nelida, the differences between the two are immense; from the very style of the dances to the origin of their intricate history. Yet each share a musical equality that reflects on life's personal sentiments of loss, love, death, pain. and joy. The comparisons are distinctive, but the personal connection between the two have led Nelida through one of the most exhilarating and successful dance careers.

Once a free and open society, Vienna is bitterly divided between high morals and the greed of commerce. Disguised as a monk, the duke wanders the land, prying into the daily lives of his subjects. When his deputy sentences Claudio to death, the virtue and purity of his sister, Isabella, is the price she must pay to save her brother’s life. Measure for Measure is directed by artistic director Stephen Burdman.

Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance’s work “Prey” has had a long and varied journey. Begun in 2008, the piece has been re-imagined in a myriad of locations: from the hallways, airshafts, offices and roof of a 3-story building to a nearly 200 year old cathedral to the formal stage, this work that focused on adapting and surviving has itself become an exercise in re-invention. In 2015, the work was commissioned to be turned into a film, which will be shot on location in the Catskill Mountains of NY in 2016.

As an exercise in using this entirely new type of environment as the "habitat" for “Prey”, New York Restoration Project and BAM will present two live informal performances of material from “Prey” during two Thursday evenings in August (August 6 and 13 at 8pm) in the Gil Hodges Community Garden on Carroll Street between 3rd and 4th Aves. Audiences may sit, stand or wander through this intimate greenspace and through the dance itself.

The 30 minute performance will be followed by an artist-audience talkback conversation about where this work has been and where we it may go in this final phase.

Founded in Tel Aviv by Lee Sher and Saar Harari in 2000 and now based in NYC, LeeSaar is “a gutsy, brainy modern-dance troupe” (NY Times) with a highly theatrical approach. Props, costumes, and pantomime punctuate their Gaga-inspired movement to form a delightful brand of avant-garde.

The program also includes a duet by their greatest influence and one of the most brilliant living choreographers, Israeli visionary OHAD NAHARIN, performed by guest dancers from his Batsheva Dance Company. Naharin developed the Gaga technique with Batsheva in the 90s and has continued to build and refine its vocabulary over three decades.

In the summer of 2003, the Entertainers Basketball Classic (EBC) in Harlem New York took the nation by storm and put the world of street ball on notice by bringing the biggest stars of hip hop, sports, and politics together in one place. Highlighted by hip hop rivals Jay Z and Fat Joe along with their star studded teams, EBC was set to have the most anticipated championship in street ball history. Thousands filled the street of Harlem, and with standing room at Rucker Park the lights went out, and never came back on. The largest blackout in U.S History crippled Manhattan and EBC Championship game. The Blackout sorts through the gossip, rumors, and urban legends as it turns the lights back on at Rucker Park and retells the story

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Wheelchair softball was born over 25 years ago in the Midwest by a few individuals with spinal cord injuries and lower extremity impairments, who still wanted to enjoy America's greatest pastime. These individuals needed to develop a way of playing that would allow easy maneuverability in a wheelchair and keep the fast pace of softball. Thus, a new game was born and played on hard surfaces, such as a parking lots, with a 16-inch softball, which allows wheelchair players to keep one hand one the wheelchair while catching a softball without a glove.
