All of our fitness programs are free, led by trained professionals, and suitable for all levels. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Please check back for rain and weather/air advisory cancels.

For a breath of fresh air, take your workouts outdoors. Parks are becoming a logical alternative environment for those who want to add variety to their work outs, or who just don't like the gym. And, it's an affordable way to increase physical activity opportunities, because there's nothing special to build.

Exercise with a view, in natural sunlight, with green scenery all around bestows health benefits that can’t be found indoors. Scientific studies have shown that the pleasure of being outdoors for example gives your brain, psyche, and immune system an extra boost.

Please note: Fitness programs are canceled if the weather is lower than 20 degrees and when there are icy conditions.

Calling all park lovers! This spring, the Playground Improvement Project (PIP) of the New York Junior League invites you to join them in rolling up your sleeves to help revitalize Columbus Park and Foley Square. Throughout five weekends in April and May PIP committee members, New York Junior League volunteers, and external volunteers will spend a day in the park (8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) gardening, landscaping, painting, and completing other tasks to help spruce up this highly used space. We will provide you with breakfast, lunch, and a t-shirt. Please reach out to playground@nyjl.org with any questions or if you are interested in making a donation to this cause.

Please RSVP if you are interested in participating in one or more park days. Registration closes when capacity is reached or the Wednesday prior to that weekend's park days.

About the New York Junior League Playground Improvement Project

For more than 20 years, the Playground Improvement Project (PIP) has been a New York Junior League signature community project. Our volunteers create safe, beautiful, well-organized and educational play spaces for children and other members of the New York City community. PIP focuses on sites and parks that need major renovation and have the greatest impact on the surrounding community. Weekend clean up days include landscaping and repairing the parks. We work with over 700 volunteers a season to help improve the park and make a positive impact on the community.

NYC Parks and Bike New York are proud to present Learn to Ride classes. In these free classes, we’ll teach children the fundamentals of bicycling, preparing them for years of safe and confident riding.

This class teaches a safe, easy, effective way to learn to ride. Using this “balance first” method, parents help get their children rolling while the child does most of the work. Participants learn the basics of balancing, starting, stopping, and steering a bike. Most people learn to ride their bike while taking the class, but even if they don’t, they will leave with an easy, hands-free, crash-free, and low-stress way to learn to ride.

Participants must bring their own bike and helmet. To register, please visit the Bike New York webpage.

An artist whose sense of craft verges on the obsessive, Doyle presents three animations from a decades-long practice animating the natural world that exists on the urban fringes. This exhibition accompanies The Lightening, a site-specific project installed in the Aquatic Garden that combines mirrored surfaces with backlit animations into an artwork that changes as the day turns into night. At the same time, in the Sunroom Project Space, Kiran Chandra explores the “swarm” as a social form through a sculptural and sonic interpretation of Eugene Marais’ The Soul of the White Ant.

Remembering is both a collective and a personal activity. In this exhibition, both are on display in relation to two World’s Fairs that took place in Flushing, Queens in 1939/40 and 1964/65. Within this exhibition, collective memory is represented by shared experiences of the Fairs and personal memory by the memorabilia drawn from the collections of people who attended and fondly recall the Fairs. While these Fairs were global in scope, their attendees were overwhelmingly local, many residing in Queens. All items on display in the exhibition have either been donated or loaned to the Queens Historical Society by those residents of Queens who attended the Fairs.

New members must attend a training and orientation the first Sunday of every month.

New York Restoration Project crews meet every week to work on ongoing projects and maintenance in their respective areas of Sherman Creek Park and Highbridge Park. All participants are provided with monthly training sessions and asked to commit to at least 3 work days. Ongoing trainings and orientations are scheduled for the first work day of every month.
