Once a free and open society, Vienna is bitterly divided between high morals and the greed of commerce. Disguised as a monk, the duke wanders the land, prying into the daily lives of his subjects. When his deputy sentences Claudio to death, the virtue and purity of his sister, Isabella, is the price she must pay to save her brother’s life. Measure for Measure is directed by Artistic Director Stephen Burdman.

Join NYC Parks for free, family-friendly movies in our city's parks!

Paddington tells the story of a young bear (Ben Whishaw) who loses his home in a deadly earthquake in the Peruvian rain forest. In searchof a new home, he makes his way to England and finds himself at the "Paddington" train station in London. He finds shelter with the family of Henry (Hugh Bonneville) and Mary Brown (Sally Hawkins). Although Paddington's amazement at urban living soon endears him to the Browns, someone else has her eye on him: Taxidermist Millicent Clyde (Nicole Kidman) has designs on the rare bear and his hide. Rated PG.

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

It's not too late to register for camp this season! Greenbelt Summer Day Camp for children age 5 - 13 years runs from 7/6 to 8/13.

Campers will also take off-site trips to other parks each session. New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene licenses our camp; this means we follow their low child-to-counselor ratio, making camp safe and fun for all.

Dunes, Drawing and Dendrology is a new summer program, a thematic series of nature walks, talks, and art workshops, designed to encompass the various natural elements of Conference House Park.

The most distinctive natural feature of Conference House Park is the mile-and-a-half beachfront along the Raritan Bay and Arthur Kill waterways. These ever present bodies of water have shaped and influenced the Park environment for years. While the park's natural topography and features are constantly changing, none have experienced more change than the beachfront. Through the constant influence of the Raritan Bay, the shoreline has ebbed, flowed, and eroded while in some places expanded.

This family-friendly, educational walk and talk is designed to increase the appreciation and understanding of Conference House Park's waterfront environment: the signature bluffs, dunes, meadows, and wetlands. The walk will highlight some of the resiliency initiatives being undertaken to better protect and safeguard the shoreline from future severe weather events.

Each week, Wave Hill educators share some of their favorite nature tales. These stories—classics and more—come to life through interactive readings, sing-alongs and puppetry.

What can you find under a rock? Who wriggles and crawls through Wave Hill’s gardens? Listen to three stories that give you a bug’s eye view of the world, and then join us as we squiggle, flutter and dance like some of the garden’s tiniest inhabitants.

This week’s selection: One Hundred Hungry Ants by Elinor J. Pinczes, Bugs for Lunch by Margaret Facklam, and Under One Rock by Anthony D. Fredericks.

Programs are held outdoors in good weather; in Wave Hill House in inclement weather. Ideal for children ages three to six with an adult.

This event is free with admission to the grounds.

Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that has evolved over centuries into an exciting combination of martial arts, dance, music, and acrobatics. Some of capoeira’s benefits include strength, flexibility, stamina, overall fitness and confidence. Benefits of capoeira for kids include promoting social interaction and sense of belonging, building confidence, discipline and self esteem, promoting a healthy lifestyle so children become active, and healthy, and develop cultural awareness and tolerance. Wear comfortable clothing.

Capoeira was developed in Brazil, but its history extends to Africa and tribes from Angola. Slaves living on Brazilian Plantations who weren’t allowed to openly practice traditional forms of self-defense developed an ingenious method of disguising their training by combining it with dance-like movements, singing, and the rhythms of primitive instruments.

This tour will explore the native plant diversity of Brooklyn Bridge Park and highlight how coastal vegetation provides resilience to storm events and climate change.

What does it take for plants to survive in an urban coastal environment?

The Nature Conservancy’s Urban Ecologist, Lauren Alleman, will discuss the different adaptations these plants have made to survive waves, wind, rain, and urban heat – and we’ll learn how these adaptations directly benefit our lives. As we tour the different ecological communities, we’ll search for the insects and birds that rely on these habitats for food and shelter.

Tour Guide: Lauren Alleman, The Nature Conservancy.

In this documentary shot in Chittagong, Bangladesh, the world center for ship-breaking, huge megaton behemoths are run aground and broken apart by men and boys who earn $2 a day. Remarkably beautiful cinematography affords indelible insights into how some of the most exploited people on earth retain their courage, decency and fortitude. A.O. Scott in The New York Times writes: “an unsettling hybrid of art and witness… the vivid record of a complex reality. The way it turns blunt, material facts into sublime images is both astonishing and troubling.”

2009, 93 minutes. Directed by Bong-Nam Park. Pre-screening performances begin at 7 p.m.; films begins at sundown.

As cool breezes blow off the Hudson and the sun sets over the Palisades, enjoy an outdoor concert on the Great Lawn.

Each Sunset Wednesday, New York City musicians capture the vibrant colors of summer in performances that feature jazz, popular music, show tunes and original songs.

With two CDs, The Moving Sidewalk and Origami for the Fire, to his credit, Alan Hampton has been called a musician with “loads of talent” by The New York Times. Please note: This event is sold out.

Celebrating their long-awaited album Strangers To Ourselves, Celebrate Brooklyn! '02 alums Modest Mouse will once again flood the Bandshell with their distinctive indie rock.

Beginning in the Northwest in the mid-90s, the band rode the new wave of indie rock into the early oughts and crested with their commercial Grammy-nominated hit "Float On" in 2004. Their next few releases and the rise of the Internet in music promotion, continued to earn them a loyal school of followers, including an active fan message board that was also rumored to have made a few love connections.

But enough about L-O-V-E. Modest Mouse is back on the scene after eight years and you can expect the same dark-yet-danceable tunes you grew to love (there's that word again!) in your early years. So don your hoodies and lace up your all-stars and join us for an unforgettable night #AtTheBandshell.

In this lavish adaptation of the classic novel, a Midwestern war veteran finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his millionaire neighbor.

Pack a picnic, bring a friend and settle in for a night of premier movies on the Pier.

The film will begin when it is dark enough to see the image on the screen which is dependent on the sunset, generally around 8:30pm. Seating will open at 6:30, and is first come first serve and people can reserve chairs for their friends once onsite. We put out chairs (about 250 of them) and they normally fill by 7:30 and ground seating is available in front and behind the chair section. Front ground seating is for blankets/butts on ground (the pier is hard made of pavers) & picnics are welcome if trash is disposed of properly. Dogs are welcome on leash and off chairs. People may bring their own chairs and place them behind our chairs on the dark pavers, if they choose to bring them. There is no seating or standing in the Southern aisle of the pier. @summeronhudson for weather updates

Join NYC Parks for free, family-friendly movies in our city's parks!

In this contemporary version of Annie, the orphan (Quvenzhané Wallis) has a hard-knock life with her calculating foster mother Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). However, all that changes when hard-nosed billionaire and mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) takes her in. Stacks believes that he's Annie's guardian angel. But, Annie's confidence and sunny outlook could save Will instead. Rated PG.

Know Before You Go: You should come before 8:30 p.m. to get your spot. Please bring your own picnic blanket or chair, as there is a limited supply of chairs reserved for seniors or people with disabilities. Food is OK, but no alcohol. Reservations are not taken, so space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All are welcome!
