Mariella Bisson’s large-scale, mixed media paintings of picturesque waterfalls in upstate New York are coupled with her preparatory drawings and watercolors in Sunlight, Water and Gravity. Her paintings, created with hundreds of pieces of layered paper, teeter on the edge of abstraction and representation. The overlapping paper replicates the texture of rushing water and rock strata. Motion, gravity, and the endlessness of geological time are as much the subject of Bisson’s paintings as the actual waterfalls.

Wheelchair softball was born over 25 years ago in the Midwest by a few individuals with spinal cord injuries and lower extremity impairments, who still wanted to enjoy America's greatest pastime. These individuals needed to develop a way of playing that would allow easy maneuverability in a wheelchair and keep the fast pace of softball. Thus, a new game was born and played on hard surfaces, such as a parking lots, with a 16-inch softball, which allows wheelchair players to keep one hand one the wheelchair while catching a softball without a glove.

Join NYC Parks and the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) for films screening at the Columbus Park Pavilion in the month of June.

Disney classic 101 Dalmatians tells the story of two canine pets Pongo and Perdita. Perdita gives birth to fifteen spotted pups, drawing the attention of Cruella De Vil, the villianess who demand the owners of two canines, a struggling composer and his wife, sell the pups to her. However, the owners decline her demands to sell the pups and Cruella De Vil devises a plan to steal them.

Through the beloved Disney classic 101 Dalmatians, MOCA pays tribute to Tyrus Wong, the artist who conceptualized the design style of Disney's animated classic, Bambi (1941). Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Drifting in Daylight is a dreamy springtime pathway of art that winds through the world’s most iconic park. The multi-part art installation includes performative, participatory, and perceptual work by artists Spencer Finch, Alicia Framis, Nina Katchadourian, Ragnar Kjartansson, Marc Bamuthi Joseph, David Levine, Karyn Olivier, and Lauri Stallings + glo. These works include a soft-serve ice cream truck serving free cones containing ice cream the color of a Central Park sunset, a boat filled with musicians floating on the Harlem Meer, and actors quietly performing moments from iconic movie scenes shot in the park.

As the centerpiece of Central Park Conservancy’s 35th anniversary celebration, this free public exhibition aims to draw visitors into the park’s beautiful north end, much of which has been expertly restored by the Conservancy. The six-weekend show will tempt visitors to transcend their busy lives, losing themselves along a playful trail of sensory experiences.

Visit the Drifting in Daylight website for more information and a detailed map.
