Starting last year on Alice Austen’s birthday, the Alice Austen House began a project documenting the grounds and waterfront from Austen’s home, Clear Comfort. Each day since then the house, grounds, and activities of the site have been documented, much like Alice Austen did over a hundred years ago. The museum will present an installation of nearly 200 snapshots capturing the daily life of this historic site and invite visitors to participate in the project.

Alice Austen Everyday is on view September 26 – December 30, 2015 and shown in conjunction with the museum’s 30th Anniversary exhibition “Becoming Clear Comfort: History of a Landmark," tracing the history of the house. Recently tagged images will also be on view, presented on an iPad in the gallery. Exhibition s on view during museum hours: Tuesday - Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm.

Be like Alice Austen: Upload images taken during the day to social media using the hashtag #aliceausteneveryday. Not on social media? Email photos with title, date, and name of photographer to info@aliceausten.org to be included in the project.

Cover Photo Contest: Submit a #aliceausteneveryday photo of the house and grounds of Clear Comfort to info@aliceausten.org by November 1, 2015. The selected winner’s photo will be used as the Alice Austen House’s Facebook Cover Photo.

The Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Youth Track Club will strive to develop and create a world class and progressive tradition within the Track and Field/Cross Country Athletics community. Practices will include training in cross country, sprinting events, middle distance and distance events, field events (including jumping and throwing events), and much more.

With our universal belief in athletics as a stepping stone for success, we feel that the Ocean Breeze Wave Runners can promote, develop, and empower our youth through physical training and mental discipline. Through hard work, motivation, and dedication, members will be able to achieve their goals and, ultimately, cultivate a foundation for a successful lifestyle. We believe, with these skills, the children of the Ocean Breeze Wave Runners Track Club will develop good practices and improve their character and confidence.

Our mission as a Track Club is to encourage young athletes to prepare rigorously for all challenges, develop a trust and belief in themselves and others, believes they can accomplish anything with the correct mindset and effort, and consistently train for personal and team improvement.

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Eight years ago, the city launched MillionTreesNYC with an ambitious goal: to plant and care for one million new trees across the city. The benefits to be gained were clear: improved air and water quality; reduced pollution from storm water runoff, flooding and erosion; and reduced energy costs, to name a few. But MillionTreesNYC is just the first step in enhancing and preserving New York City's urban forest. Tree care and stewardship are the next critical steps to ensuring the survival of our urban forest. Since 2007, we have come a long way towards reaching our goal of planting one million trees, and we are confident that we will get there. We invite you to join us this fall to plant trees in Buck's Hollow on Saturday November 7!

Transforming the park into a walk through the wilderness, Klemperer investigates animal populations that were threatened in the 20th century, but are rebounding and showing up in “our backyard.” Not only are wild animals are finding their way into suburban and urban environments as human populations sprawl into their natural habitats, but they are adapting and thriving on the largesse of urban life.

A young woman settles in for her first evening as caretaker of ominous Morris-Jumel Mansion, Manhattan's oldest house. She expects a quiet night; it proves to be anything but...

In Awakening in Ink, a new site-specific play written and directed by Vincent Carbone, audience members accompany the caretaker as she steps from room to room, attempting to discover what lurks in the dark. Her findings will shock her...and you!

Morris-Jumel's first commissioned play, inspired by letters and ghost stories stored in MJM's archives, Awakening in Ink opens Thursday, October 15th, and runs till November 7th. Tickets are $40, $30 for students and members. Tickets to a special Halloween performance, which includes a post-play paranormal investigation of Morris-Jumel Mansion, cost $80.

Forest Hills, one of NYC's most desirable residential neighborhoods, has a rich heritage. Its centerpiece is Forest Hills Gardens, an enclave of beautiful freestanding houses and village greens that was designed on the "garden city" model and has influenced urban planners to this day. Sights on the tour include historically significant locales of Forest Hills, along with landmarked buildings, abundant Tudor and Art Deco architecture, and gathering spots that have remained popular for generations in the community. In addition, the tour will visit places associated with local ethnic populations as well as those with a connection to various celebrities who've lived in Forest Hills -- including author/activist Helen Keller!

Awesome Asana Yoga is an hour-long exercise in body stretching and mind cleansing taught by registered yoga teacher Chelsea Best. As Chelsea says, “Awesome Asana offers a unique yogic journey, linking breath with movement in a meditative Vinyasa Flow class style designed to awaken the spirit and bring the body and mind back to a place of peace.” The class is Open Level Vinyasa, and is moderately challenging.

MJM’s Awesome Asana is part of Chelsea’s “Localize Yoga” project, which aims to make yoga affordable and accessible – to present it “as a possibility, rather than as a luxury” – to the denizens of upper Manhattan. The class is $5, and mats, should you need one, are provided.
