Join the Prospect Park Alliance and Wildlife Conservation Society for a weekend of fleece fun. Visit the zoo, where the sheep will lose their winter coats in preparation for summer, and enjoy woolworking demonstrations, crafts, music and, of course, sheep! At Lefferts Historic House, learn how wool was used on a 18th century Flatbush farm. Brush wool with carding paddles, spin yarn using a drop spindle and even make a felt ball to take home. On Sunday, visitors can also enjoy a demonstration by our resident spinner, Catherine Conrad.

Wave Hill’s 50th anniversary festivities reach a crescendo this spring with a month-long celebration, when, for the first time in Wave Hill’s history, visitors will be invited to attend in the evening to enjoy the garden landscape at a time of day and during a season when it is normally closed to the public. Take in The Lightening: a Project for Wave Hill’s Aquatic Garden, an immersive, plein-air installation by acclaimed artist by Chris Doyle, with music by composer Jeremy Turner, recorded by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. Stop by Glyndor Gallery to see Chris Doyle: Landscape Fictions. Visit The Shop, The Café and the Marco Polo Stufano Conservatory, and enjoy informal piano performances in Wave Hill House. This evening’s pianist is Janice Friedman.

Mariella Bisson’s large-scale, mixed media paintings of picturesque waterfalls in upstate New York are coupled with her preparatory drawings and watercolors in Sunlight, Water and Gravity. Her paintings, created with hundreds of pieces of layered paper, teeter on the edge of abstraction and representation. The overlapping paper replicates the texture of rushing water and rock strata. Motion, gravity, and the endlessness of geological time are as much the subject of Bisson’s paintings as the actual waterfalls.

For a breath of fresh air, take your workouts outdoors. Parks are becoming a logical alternative environment for those who want to add variety to their work outs, or who just don't like the gym. And, it's an affordable way to increase physical activity opportunities, because there's nothing special to build.

Exercise with a view, in natural sunlight, with green scenery all around bestows health benefits that can’t be found indoors. Scientific studies have shown that the pleasure of being outdoors for example gives your brain, psyche, and immune system an extra boost.

MASTODON
Art is a cyclical beast. The same can easily be said of Grammy Award nominated hard rock juggernaut Mastodon. The group’s four members recognize the importance of life’s omnipresent cycles on their sixth full-length album, Once More ‘Round the Sun. The band orbits around themes of loss and rebirth, twirling a sonic spiral of its signature robust riffing, hypnotically haunting soundscapes, triage of dynamic voices, and thundering seismic grooves. At the same time, this particular collection proves personal for Brann Dailor, Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher, and Troy Sanders, with the very title saying something slightly different for each member.

CLUTCH
Maryland rockers Clutch have been pushing the boundaries that define heavy rock music since the 4 original members got together in high school. Having been tagged hard rock, blues rock, southern stoner rock and alternative metal by press and fans across the world alike it is safe to say one thing… “What you see is what you get”, and what you get is a musical force that has been best described as the quintessential American rock band.

Barnard College and Summer on the Hudson present a celebration of women in music with some of finest musicians from NYC colleges and universities at an evening performance in an astounding setting.

Make Some Noise lineup:

Saman

Saman is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter from Washington D.C. She is now based in New York. Her music aims to make people feel a lot of feelings.

Liberty Zoo

Liberty Zoo is an eclectic, funk-pop band made up of five rowdy youngsters. Their boppin’ music is composed of looped vocals, tap dancing, rap, groovy guitar riffs, synth magic, and funky flute licks. Liberty Zoo is establishing itself as a rising band in New York, having opened for such artists as Alex Calder and most recently Big Sean at Columbia University’s Bacchanal festival. They will be releasing their debut EP in the fall and will be playing shows around the city all summer. To fully appreciate their fun-loving, dance-y energy, see them jam out live!

Luz Pinos

Luz Pinos is an Ecuadorian singer/composer based in NYC. Her music is a mixture of South American traditional rhythms put together into an improvisational personal style.

Sarah Dooley

Born in Indiana and currently based in Brooklyn, Sarah recently released her debut indie-pop album “Stupid Things," which was featured on NPR’s “Morning Edition” and ranked #17 on the iTunes pop charts. Her album has been covered by over thirty publications, including Huffington Post, Seventeen Magazine, and Refinery29. Sarah is a proud graduate of Barnard College, where she studied playwriting and, at one time, danced around as college mascot, Millie the Bear (it was the best day of her life).

Adi Meyerson Group

Adi Meyerson is an Israeli-raised Bassist and composer. She received her first musical training at the prestigious "Charles A. Smith Jerusalem High School of the Arts" on bass guitar at the age of 14. After graduating from high school, she discovered a love for Jazz and started playing the upright bass.

In August 2012, Adi relocated To New York to pursue her studies at "The New School for Jazz and Contemporary music", where she graduated from in 2014. In a brief period of 2.5 years, Adi has already started to make an impact on the NYC jazz scene and earn her title as an up and coming young talent.

Come to Fort Tryon Park and try something new. Join us on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings for one hour of walking, stretching, and strengthening exercises.

All of our fitness programs are free, led by trained professionals, and suitable for all levels. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Please check back for rain and weather/air advisory cancels.

Please note: Fitness programs are canceled if the weather is lower than 20 degrees and when there are icy conditions. Saturday morning walks begin at 8:30 a.m.
