Through the use of two mediums, film and theater, the project tells the story of one city in its final days. The web series contains a theatrical production (the graphic musical Hero How To) that supports its larger narrative. The project is rooted in funk, soul, and hip-hop music to anchor the story and allow seamless movement between its two disciplines.

There will be a DVD screening of film and presentation.

Shannon Gillen is the founder, artistic director and choreographer of New York's visionary new dance company Vim Vigor, which is currently being launched. Through a prolific body of work, Gillen has pioneered a recognizable artistic language that possesses heroic physicality, electric emotional life, and cinematic imagery that illuminates and heightens the narrative imagination. In a 2013 Brooklyn Magazine article that named her as one of city's top twenty artists, Gillen was championed for her 'emotionally compelling' work that 'transcends the things it references and achieves a sort of platonic ideal of intelligent and elevated movement'. And L Magazine later wrote that Gillen's dancers 'force you to the edge of your seat, breath held, hands clenched'.

Now in its third season, Socrates and Norte Maar present a residency and performance program that brings New York-based choreographers and their dancers to a unique waterfront environment. Three weeklong residencies will each culminate in a free public dance performance on an outdoor stage in the park. Throughout their creative process, participating choreographers will be in full view of the public so that visitors will witness cutting-edge dance and movement in the making, and experience fully-produced performances every Saturday.

As part of the Young Choreographers program, Dance at Socrates will also be pairing aspiring teen choreographers (ages 13-18) with experienced Norte Maar choreographers in residence. These week-long residencies will culminate in the presentation of a new short dance, to be featured in the Dance at Socrates Saturday performances.

The play is set during the latter days of the Roman Empire and tells the fictional story of Titus, a general in the Roman army, who is engaged in a cycle of revenge with Tamora, Queen of the Goths. It is Shakespeare's bloodiest and most violent work and traditionally was one of his least respected plays. Although it was extremely popular in its day, by the later seventeenth century it had fallen out of favour. In the Victorian era, it was disapproved of primarily because of what was considered to be a distasteful use of graphic violence, but from around the middle of the twentieth century its reputation began to improve.

His desperation for backers to get it on Broadway (and to win the heart of Miss Piggy), leads him to take a waitering job to support himself. Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Basic canoe programs are great for all skill levels. Most canoe programs are first-come, first-served. Participation in a mandatory safety review led by a trained Ranger is required. Children aged 8 and older are welcome.

Hiking is the ultimate way to enjoy the outdoors and a fun way to reduce stress. Our Urban Park Ranger hiking guides will introduce you to the hidden gems of New York CIty and places often off-limits to the general public. On Nature Exploration Hikes we will discover the plants and animals that inhabit the urban forest. Moderate hikes are longer, faster paced hikes on rugged terrain. For all hiking programs we recommend wearing comfortable shoes or boots, and packing water and a light snack.
