In this 18th century play by Oliver Goldsmith, wealthy countryman Mr. Hardcastle arranges for his daughter Kate to meet Charles Marlow, the son of a rich Londoner, hoping the pair will marry. Unfortunately, Marlow is nervous around upper-class women, yet the complete opposite around working-class women. On his first acquaintance with Kate, the latter realises she will have to pretend to be 'common', or Marlow will not woo her. Thus Kate 'stoops to conquer', by posing as a maid, hoping to put Marlow at his ease so he falls for her.

The mission of Hudson Warehouse is to present the classics in exciting productions inspired by our past and relevant to our present day.

Once a free and open society, Vienna is bitterly divided between high morals and the greed of commerce. Disguised as a monk, the duke wanders the land, prying into the daily lives of his subjects. When his deputy sentences Claudio to death, the virtue and purity of his sister, Isabella, is the price she must pay to save her brother’s life. Measure for Measure is directed by Artistic Director Stephen Burdman.

Obliterating dubstep stutters and crisp electropop pulses. Hazy electrostatic breezes and epinephrine dancefloor turnarounds. Sylvan Esso—the singer Amelia Meath of Mountain Man and the producer (and Megafaun bassist) Nick Sanborn—create “endlessly elastic and three-dimensional” (NPR) songs that conjure up dreamlike conflations of sensuality and sexual depravity, homesickness and wanderlust, nostalgia and immediacy. The duo came together in Durham, NC in 2013 after the two met on a shared bill and Meath asked Sanborn to remix a song she had written for Mountain Man. Aesthetic sympathies were discovered, artistic sparks flew, and the resulting self-titled debut record, released on Partisan Records in May of 2014, made them one of the fastest rising bands of last year. The leap from small clubs to festival stages may have been been swift but it’s also seamless—their sound is huge, and their live show is a celebratory revelation.

The prolific songwriter Aaron Maine’s Porches has mined darker and weirder sonic territory in the past, but its latest incarnation—a lineup that includes Greta Kline of Frankie Cosmos—makes “danceable, shimmery pop with rock instruments (keyboards too), in an '80s-sorta way.” (Brooklyn Vegan)

Located along the esplanade leading up to the recently opened High Bridge, Oh Sit! 14 Sculptors Consider the Chair is a group exhibition of nine artists’ public artworks. In a frantic world, finding a chair can be almost impossible and settling comfortably into one can be an enormous satisfaction. Sitting in the wrong seat can cause anxiety and an even pain. Exhibiting artists Dan Bergman, Allan Cyprys, Robert Dell, Gregoire Ferland, Esther Grillo, Christina Jorge, Siena Gillann Porta, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt respond imaginatively to the notion of sitting or using a chair. Oh Sit! is framed as an imperative, a command—a way of asking the viewer to look and really consider the concept “chair” both objectively and subjectively.

Awesome Asana Yoga is an hour-long exercise in body stretching and mind cleansing taught by registered yoga teacher Chelsea Best. As Chelsea says, “Awesome Asana offers a unique yogic journey, linking breath with movement in a meditative Vinyasa Flow class style designed to awaken the spirit and bring the body and mind back to a place of peace.” The class is Open Level Vinyasa, and is moderately challenging.

MJM’s Awesome Asana is part of Chelsea’s “Localize Yoga” project, which aims to make yoga affordable and accessible – to present it “as a possibility, rather than as a luxury” – to the denizens of upper Manhattan. The class is $5, and mats, should you need one, are provided.

Come celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with NYC Parks!

Musical Chairs is about Armando, who aspires to be a dancer but whose only way in is as a handyman at a Manhattan dance studio, and Mia, an Upper East Side princess. Though worlds apart, their shared passion for dance promises to bring them together until a tragic accident changes Mia's life forever, and she finds herself wheelchair-bound at a rehab facility, with her dreams of a dance career shattered. Fortunately, Armando has enough dreams for both of them, and when he hears about a wheelchair ballroom dance competition that will soon be held in New York, wth the help of several other patients at the rehab center, Armando organizes an intense training program that will bring them all center stage and in the spotlight.

Modern Ruin tells the story of Philip Johnson's New York State Pavilion during the glory days of the fair, and chronicles its demise over the past 50 years. The film details its post-fair use as a 60s concert venue and 70s roller rink, including the years of neglect as well as the recent advocacy efforts to save and repurpose the structure.

Mainspring Pictures Ltd Presents, an Aquarela Pictures Production, in association with People for the Pavilion “Modern Ruin: A World’s Fair Pavilion”. Written, directed, and edited by Matthew Silva. Executive producers, Jake Gorst and Tracey Rennie Gorst. Matthew Silva is a teacher, filmmaker, and Co-founder of People for the Pavilion. Born in Flushing but raised in Suffolk County, Matthew would pass the New York State Pavilion and like many people, would wonder what it was. His curiosity has led him making a film about the structure in an effort to make it easier for people to learn about its significance. Matthew is a believer in design and its power to change communities, politics, the environment, and the world.

Enjoy vibrantly danceable live music accompanied by spectacular sunsets over the Hudson River!

River Whyless puts a hauntingly sweet spin on traditional foundations with a sound full of lush harmonies, wide sweeping arrangements driven by dark percussion, and metaphors built of firewood and sap.

Their recent EP, the bands first release since their 2012 debut album, marks a notable evolution in their collective voice. Anderson's voice finds a mark between Sandy Denny's ethereal plea and Crystal Gayle's country swoon. English trad-folk sounds are some of the band's obvious touchstones, putting them in a category similar to contemporaries like Fleet Foxes and Stornoway.
