Rockaway!, a free public arts festival sponsored by the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy (JBRPC) to celebrate the reopening of Fort Tilden and recognize the ongoing recovery of the Rockaway peninsula, opens June 29 and continues through September 1, 2014. Invited by the Rockaway Artists Alliance (RAA), an association of artists based in and around the Rockaways, and the JBRPC, MoMA PS1 has assisted and supported the conception of this festival.

One component of the festival is a group exhibition organized in collaboration with the Honolulu Biennial on the grounds of the newly restored Rockaway Beach Surf Club on Beach 87th Street in Rockaway Beach. Following Hurricane Sandy, the Surf Club was the one of the largest relief centers on the peninsula; their organization facilitated and directed over 5,000 volunteers, with major contributions from MoMA PS1. The exhibition celebrates the efforts of the Rockaway community of surfers and artists in rebuilding their neighborhood.

For details and times of the rest of the exhibit, please visit the Rockaway! website.

Remembering is both a collective and a personal activity. In this exhibition, both are on display in relation to two World’s Fairs that took place in Flushing, Queens in 1939/40 and 1964/65. Within this exhibition, collective memory is represented by shared experiences of the Fairs and personal memory by the memorabilia drawn from the collections of people who attended and fondly recall the Fairs. While these Fairs were global in scope, their attendees were overwhelmingly local, many residing in Queens. All items on display in the exhibition have either been donated or loaned to the Queens Historical Society by those residents of Queens who attended the Fairs.

Having put out more than 10 albums in 20 years, JOE has become one of R&B’s most accomplished and popular singers with seven Grammy nods along the span of his career. Singles such as “All The Things (Your Man Won’t Do),” “All That I Am,” “No One Comes Close” and “I Wanna Know” established Joe as a bona fide hit-maker who has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide. Moreover, his work with Mariah Carey (“Thank God I Found You”), Big Pun (“Still Not A Player”) and G-Unit (“Wanna Get To Know You”), shows that Joe is a much sought-after collaborator with some of music’s biggest and best artists. Joe’s most recent offering, Double Back: Evolution of R&B, debuted as the #1 R&B album in the country on Billboard’s “R&B Albums” & #4 “Top 200” charts this past summer. With that success, Double Back has produced a top five single with its first release “I’d Rather Have A Love”. With a new label deal in place PLAID TAKEOVER/BMG CHRYSALIS and new management, with veteran music executive Gerald “Plaid” Isaac, JOE is already gearing up for a successful 2014. The top-selling R&B singer is currently in the studio putting together magnificent songs in preparation for his new commercial album 2014, summer release entitled "BRIDGES". The lead single & video, “Love & Sex Pt. 2,” features the incredible and equally beautiful Kelly Rowland of X-FACTOR/Destiny’s Child fame and is currently impacting radio and TV heavily. In support of his new release(s) JOE will be touring the US, Europe, Asia and abroad.

Treat your child to a day camp like they've only imagined at Van Cortlandt House Museum.

Immersed in the everyday life of a child in 18th century and dressed in period style clothing, campers learn about the Van Cortlandt Family and the history that happened here all while having fun.

Children will also travel in time back to the early years of the Revolutionary War and experience the life of a soldier in General George Washington’s army. They will lend a hand with pitching tents and setting up camp. “Enlistment” in the army, military drill, and reconnaissance, are also part of the action.

Camp is lead by Van Cortlandt House Museum’s professional staff, talented living history volunteers, and college students studying material culture and art education. Daily activities for Adventures in Time Summer History Camp are designed in keeping with New York State 4th grade curriculum standards and are appropriate for children ages 6 - 12.

Adventures in Time Summer History Camp is open to all children with a sense of adventure who have completed 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th grade (or the equivalent) in the Spring of 2014. We encourage early enrollment, as camp space is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Van Cortlandt House Museum is owned by the City of New York Parks & Recreation, operated by The National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York, and a member of The Historic House Trust of New York City.

Like many of today’s children, Little Red is a smart, young city slicker who is to focused on her smartphone to notice her surroundings. Wulfric is a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth. When Little Red travels from New York City to the country to deliver some cupcakes to her Grandma, she encounters a colorful cast of characters as Wulfric the Wolf tries to head her off at the pass.

For details and times of the rest of the exhibit, please visit the Rockaway! website.

Gavin DeGraw’s powerful new album MAKE A MOVE is a victorious and creative musical return. On the follow-up to 2011’s Sweeter, Gavin DeGraw has experienced a creative and commercial renaissance displaying his even more focused vocal and artistic talent, his assured energy, musically expanded palette, and sharp, detail-driven lyrics.

The first single, “Best I Ever Had,” is the most up-tempo thing DeGraw has done yet, charging out of the gate with a galloping rhythm and lively horns. “I feel like this album is the strongest record I’ve made,” DeGraw says. “It’s a clear evolution from what I’ve been doing. I’ve taken more risks, like learning the value of having space in the writing. Silence is louder than the highest note.”

“It’s like being born again,” he says. “It’s crazy. I think very few people get to experience that sort of luck-of-the-draw moment.” DeGraw is referring to the double-platinum success of his single “Not Over You,” a “soulful, majestic ballad” (as Billboard put it) co-written with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder that reached No. 1 on the Hot AC charts, was a top 10 hit at Top 40 radio, and was certified double platinum. The track helped propel Sweeter (which Rolling Stone’s review called “taut, efficient and hook-packed,” going on to praise DeGraw as “an excellent singer”) to a No. 8 debut on the Billboard album chart, his second Top 10 album after his 2008 self-titled release. That album debuted at No. 1 on the digital sales chart and at No. 7 on Billboard’s album chart, and spawned the hit singles “In Love With A Girl” and the gold-certified “We Belong Together.” (The South Fallsburg, NY, native first broke through in 2003 with his platinum debut Chariot, which yielded three hit singles: the No. 1 Top 40 smash “I Don’t Want To Be,” “Follow Through,” and the title-track.)

Based in San Francisco, Matt Nathanson has evolved into one of the premier songwriters and dynamic performers on the music scene today. His 2007 album Some Mad Hope (his first for Vanguard) yielded the smash single “Come On Get Higher,” which has sold more than 2 million copies to date, as well as the subsequent hits “Car Crash,” “Falling Apart” and “All We Are.” The success of Some Mad Hope earned Nathanson a coveted spot as a VH1 “You Oughta Know” artist, while also resulting in appearances on such national television shows as David Letterman, Ellen,Conan O’Brien, Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson, Dancing with the Stars, Rachael Ray and The CMA Awards to name a few. Additionally, his songs have been featured in numerous film and TV programs, including Good Morning America, NCIS, Private Practice, American Idol, X Factor,Vampire Diaries, American Pie and 90210. Modern Love, his previous studio album, debuted at #17 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and topped the iTunes Pop Chart. It featured the hit singles “Faster” and “Run” – the latter featuring Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. Nathanson’s legendary live shows, in which he displays a chic comedic flair, have resulted in sold-out tours across the U.S., Canada and Australia. Matt Nathanson’s ninth studio recording, Last of the Great Pretenders, will be released on July 16th. Produced by Mike Viola and Jake Sinclair, Last of the Great Pretenders marks a dramatic progression for the acclaimed artist, who has created a richer and deeper work both musically and lyrically than any of his previous LPs – and that’s saying something considering the already rarefied level of his writing and performing. Songs like “Earthquake Weather,” “Kill The LIghts,” “Kinks Shirt,” “Sunday New York Times” and first single “Mission Bells” are precisely cinematic as Nathanson stirs the material with deftly placed pop-cultural references and vivid details drawn from his keen observations of everyday life, while topping each song with an emphatic and seductive chorus hook.

Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that has evolved over centuries into an exciting combination of martial arts, dance, music, and acrobatics. Some of capoeira’s benefits include strength, flexibility, stamina, overall fitness and confidence. Benefits of capoeira for kids include promoting social interaction and sense of belonging, building confidence, discipline and self esteem, promoting a healthy lifestyle so children become active, and healthy, and develop cultural awareness and tolerance. Wear comfortable clothing.

Capoeira was developed in Brazil, but its history extends to Africa and tribes from Angola. Slaves living on Brazilian Plantations who weren’t allowed to openly practice traditional forms of self-defense developed an ingenious method of disguising their training by combining it with dance-like movements, singing, and the rhythms of primitive instruments.

Bobby Sanabria - drummer, percussionist, composer, arranger, recording artist, producer, filmmaker, conductor, educator, activist, multi-cultural warrior and multiple Grammy nominee - has performed with a veritable Who's Who in the world of jazz and Latin music, as well as with his own critically acclaimed ensembles. His diverse recording and performing experience includes work with such legendary figures as Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Paquito D'Rivera, Charles McPherson, Mongo Santamaría, Ray Barretto, Marco Rizo, Arturo Sandoval, Roswell Rudd, Chico O'Farrill, Candido, Yomo Toro, Francisco Aguabella, Larry Harlow, Henry Threadgill, and the Godfather of Afro-Cuban Jazz, Mario Bauzá.

Chico & Rita is a stunning, Oscar-nominated animated feature for adults. Chico is a young piano player with big dreams, while Rita is a beautiful singer with an extraordinary voice. Music and romantic desire unites them, but their journey -- in the tradition of the Latin ballad, the bolero -- brings heartache and torment, as they battle impossible odds to unite in music and love. Along the way they meet Chano Pozo, Dizzy Gillespie and travel to three continents in pursuit of their passions. Directed by Tono Errando, Javier Mariscal, Fernando Trueba.

The New York Neo-Futurists are an ensemble of dynamic writer/director/performers who are best known for their critically acclaimed, energetic signature show of original short plays, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. Once called "The Snapchat of Theater", with its ever-changing "menu" of plays, TML is a race against the clock to perform 30 plays in 60 minutes in an order determined by the audience! All our plays are presented from a perspective of absolute honesty, do not ask the audience to "suspend their disbelief", and often include audience interactions. A non-illusory collage of the comic and tragic, the political and personal, the visceral and experimental, Too Much Light endeavors to tell dynamic stories while embracing chance, change, and chaos. Developed out of a format that has been a success in Chicago since 1988, the Neo-Futurists put down roots in NYC in the mid 90’s and have been growing strong ever since. After a grand re-birth in the city in 2004, NYNF has created over 3300 new plays for Too Much Light, as well as many longer form works, and continues to present award-winning, topical and vital work every weekend at the Kraine Theater and around the New York independent theater community. Sometimes true life really is stranger than fiction...

The Outsiders: "When two poor greasers, Johnny, and Ponyboy are assaulted by a vicious gang, the socs, and Johnny kills one of the attackers, tension begins to mount between the two rival gangs, setting off a turbulent chain of events." IMDB.com

Summer on the Hudson programming is free to the public. Seating is limited, unreserved, and available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning 1-2 hours before the event. If there is heavy rain at the time of the event, the event will be cancelled. Up to the minute cancelation information will be posted on our twitter @summeronhuhdson and if the event is canceled the Parks calendar website will be updated to reflect that (about 2 hours before the event). The film will begin when it is dark enough to see the image on the screen which is dependent on the sunset, generally around 8:30pm. Seating will open at 6:30, and is first come first serve and people can reserve chairs for their friends once onsite. We put out chairs (about 250 of them) and they normally fill by 7:30 and ground seating is available in front and behind the chair section. Front ground seating is for blankets/butts on ground (the pier is hard made of pavers) & picnics are welcome if trash is disposed of properly. Dogs are welcome. People may bring their own chairs and place them behind our chairs on the dark pavers, if they choose to bring them. There is no seating or standing in the Southern aisle of the pier
