The contradictions in John Butler are evident, and, despite his magnificently successful career (with number one albums in Australia and sell-out tours) his is a troubled soul. One of the most successful recording artists Australia has ever produced and a musician whose reputation has begun to rock the waters of both Europe and America, Butler is nevertheless a man on the edge, poised like a beautiful suicide. Where will he go next? Up or down? Despite the tensions within the man and his music the new album makes his future trajectory abundantly clear.

An independent role model, founder of Australia’s Jarrah Records, family man and proud skateboard aficionado, JB, in spite of his matey public persona, remains an enigma. He is from everywhere and nowhere, an Australian/American, Everyman/Nowhere Man, and his music mixes rootedness and rootlessness, pain and celebration in a way that is utterly beguiling. He is the consummate rebel-refugee whose songs chart disenchantment with the corporate world and show a yearning for truth along with an ongoing struggle for a sense of focus. The songs’ off-centre grooves have always been their charm, and yet now there is a sense, in the new album at least, of resolution and peace after years of being against the world and what it offered. Maybe the man on the brink will not jump after all?

USA Today has called Allen Stone a “pitch-perfect powerhouse” and The New York Times has likened his socially conscious music to that of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Bill Withers. But the 25-year-old singer-songwriter from the tiny backwoods town of Chewelah, Washington just sees himself as “a hippie with soul.”

Stone has spent the past four years honing his unique style the old-fashioned way: crisscrossing the country in a van with his ace band and playing any small club that would have him. Since the digital release of his self-titled album via his own stickystones label in October 2011, Stone’s shows have been selling out from coast to coast. The album jumped into the Top 10 of Billboard’sHeatseekers chart and entered the Top 5 of iTunes’ R&B/Soul charts. His first national television appearance – on “Conan” – came after the music booker saw a YouTube video of Allen performing “Unaware” in his mother’s living room. Performances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “Live from Daryl’s House” followed and Esquire, CNN and Billboard named Stone as an artist to watch – all before he had the support of a record label. Stone has since signed to ATO Records, which is bringing the album into wide release.

Closely Knit: A Textile Analysis of Animals by Ruth Marshall brings attention to illegal wildlife trade and species loss in a way that unites a widened audience of scientists, art enthusiasts and the general public. Her life-size, knitted textile pelts of tigers, leopards, coral snakes and Australian marsupials exemplify how artisan goods have the potential to have higher commercial value than poached skins on the black market. Her textiles reinforce the ideology that support for conservation and culture is a more sustainable, viable and lucrative endeavor than the illegal wildlife trade.

She has conducted research at the American Museum of Natural History, Melbourne Museum and the Berlin Zoo. For Closely Knit, Marshall studied Askai, Central Park Zoo’s six-year-old male snow leopard and created a new knitted work based on his distinctive coat. The exhibition is staged in the historic Arsenal building, which housed a menagerie of gifted animals on the basement level from 1859 to 1871, and was the first home of the American Museum of Natural History from 1869 to 1877 before it moved to its current home on Manhattan’s West Side.

Little Red’s Hood is a fresh retelling of the classic “Little Red Riding Hood” tale updated with a modern sensibility that will appeal to kids. The production features a dozen, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre.

Like many of today’s children, Little Red is a smart, young city slicker who is too focused on her smartphone to notice her surroundings. Wulfric is a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth. When Little Red travels from New York City to the country to deliver some cupcakes to her Grandma, she encounters a colorful cast of characters as Wulfric the Wolf tries to head her off at the pass.

Little Red’s Hood is directed by Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre’s Artistic Director Bruce Cannon and written by Liam Hurley.

The CityParks PuppetMobile is the oldest continually operating company of its kind in the country, which presents free performances and puppet-making workshops in neighborhood parks, recreation centers and schools throughout New York City.

DJ Bent Roc is the premiere mix master on New York City’s 107.5 WBLS. Besides spinning for all the station’s events, he spins weekly on Saturdays for his own show, Classic Flavors alongside his partner, legendary rapper, Chubb Rock. With his weekly show, DJ Bent Roc gives respect and attention to the pioneers of hip-hop culture. With over 20 years of DJ experience, along with the Billboard “R&B / Hip Hop Radio Show of the Year” award under his belt, DJ Bent Roc will rock your world!

Chubb Rock, often compared to a Hip-Hop Barry White, dropped out of pre-med at Brown University to pursue his musical career. Regarded as one of the East Coast’s most dexterous rappers, he first appeared on the national Rap scene with his self-titled debut, Chubb Rock. His 1991 release, The One, reached #13 on Billboard’s Top Hip-Hop/R&B chart that year. Three singles from that release made it to #1 on Billboard’s Top Rap Single chart list that same year including, the classic song, “Treat Em Right,” “Just the Two of Us” and “Lost in the Storm.”

New York-born rapper Dana Dane first displayed his talents as a member of a rap group, Kangol Crew, which he formed with classmate Slick Rick. Launching his solo career after graduating, his debut single “Nightmare,” offered hints of his talents. Known for his humorous rhymes and his eclectic fashion sense, Dane broke through commercially with his first full-length album, Dana Dane with Fame. The success of the album, established him as a powerful rapper and one of early Hip-Hop’s biggest personalities.

Edward Archer, aka Special Ed, is Brooklyn rapper best known for the songs "I Got It Made" and "I'm The Magnificent", produced by "Hitman" Howie Tee and released in 1989 on the Youngest in Charge album, recorded when Ed was 16 years old. He was later a member of Crooklyn Dodgers, an ad hoc group who came together to perform for the Spike Lee films Clockers and Crooklyn, and he performed "Crooklyn" with Shillz on the 2003 compilation album MuskaBeatz. Ed released a third solo album, Revelations, with the single "Neva Go Back" in 1995, with the track "Freaky Flow" receiving a remix by DJ Premier. In 2004, Ed released the album Still Got It Made on his own label "Semi."

Hamish Linklater and Tony® nominee Lily Rabe return to the Park this summer as the wise-cracking, would-be lovers Beatrice and Benedick in the beloved romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing. Central Park becomes sun-drenched Sicily at the turn of the last century, where the heat of summer ignites the fevered passions of lovesick ladies in corsets and pining gentlemen spying from the verandah. Three-time Tony winner Jack O’Brien directs this delightful skirmish of wit between two self-declared bachelors tricked by their mischief-making friends into falling in love against their will and in spite of their own hearts.

New York's most treasured summer tradition, Free Shakespeare in the Park, celebrates its 52nd season in Central Park's famous Delacorte Theater. Love and madness, laughter and tragedy combine for a uniquely thrilling season of exciting theater and exceptional performances under the stars. Join over 5 million people who have enjoyed The Public Theater's free performances and experience the heights of romance and the depths of duplicity in a setting unlike any other, in the heart of Manhattan.

Free tickets to the 2014 season will once again be distributed in the Park, online via the Virtual Ticketing Lottery, and in the five boroughs of New York City. For more info on getting tickets, visit the Shakespeare in the Park tickets page.
