Remembering is both a collective and a personal activity. In this exhibition, both are on display in relation to two World’s Fairs that took place in Flushing, Queens in 1939/40 and 1964/65. Within this exhibition, collective memory is represented by shared experiences of the Fairs and personal memory by the memorabilia drawn from the collections of people who attended and fondly recall the Fairs. While these Fairs were global in scope, their attendees were overwhelmingly local, many residing in Queens. All items on display in the exhibition have either been donated or loaned to the Queens Historical Society by those residents of Queens who attended the Fairs.

Thank you for your interest. Our event is currently full and the registration is closed.

Natural Areas Conservancy ecologists will take you for a guided walk through the coastal and forested areas of the diverse 2,700 acre park and discuss its unique ecology. Tour leaders will show you how to identify trees (since trees are less recognizable without their leaves) and how to find signs of wildlife, including tracks.

The Natural Areas Conservancy will also provide a sneak peek of the early findings from our first-ever, citywide ecological assessment project, including interesting forest facts about Pelham Bay Park. The walk will begin and end at the historic Bartow Pell Mansion with a brief presentation and hot chocolate!

Please be prepared with warm clothes, walking shoes, and water if needed. For more information regarding this event, please visit the Natural Areas Conservancy website. Meet at Bartow Pell Mansion at 895 Shore Road in Pelham Bay Park, Bronx.

The annual Emerging Artist Fellowship (EAF) Exhibition is a cornerstone of Socrates Sculpture Park’s visual arts programming and is widely acclaimed for the ambition, breadth, and innovation of the works on view. Featuring fifteen artists, EAF14 is a survey of the compelling and diverse state of sculpture today.

NYC Parks’ Ebony Society invites you to celebrate Black History Month with the Arsenal Gallery exhibition The Migration.

In the midst of tremendous upheaval—two world wars and the Great Depression—a vast movement of people, some 6 million African American descendants of the Antebellum South, fled the racial segregation and discrimination of Jim Crow laws for northern and western U.S. cities. The “Great Migration,” as it is commonly termed, caused a seismic societal demographic shift and left an indelible mark on the urbanization of America. Twenty-two artists share their interpretations of this historical epoch and its impact.

Based on Washington Square, Henry James’s classic novel of mid-19th century New York City, this Academy Award-winning and haunting film tells the story of young love — and a dominating father who didn’t approve.

The similarities between James’s Catherine Sloper and Gertrude Tredwell are uncanny. Like Catherine, Gertrude never married, and according to family legend was forbidden from marrying her sweetheart, Luis Walton. And you’ll see the Merchant’s House as you watch in the Greek Revival double parlor. The filmmakers designed the sets based on the museum's period rooms.

NYC Parks is pleased to present the exhibition: “Native Ensemble: Artists Chronicle Staten Island’s Natural Spaces”, featuring local Staten Island artists that will run from February 13 – March 29, 2015, with an opening reception on Thursday, February 12th from 7-9 p.m. in the Lenape Gallery at the Conference House Park Visitor Center. The exhibition is curated by Sarah Yuster.

The eight artists featured in the show: David DiLillo, Ann Marie McDonnell, Michael McWeeney, Gail Middleton, Bill Murphy, Kristi Pfister, Melissa West and Sarah Yuster will present inspired 2-D and 3-D works created in a variety of art mediums that explore Staten Island’s natural elements and open spaces in conventional and unconventional techniques. Allusions to the human narrative in these works give way in an effort to shape the poetic and elusive concept of time and nature.

Lenape Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. For additional information please contact Frank Gessner at (718) 227-1463.
