Amber Wagner (soprano) is a winner of the Met’s 2007 National Council Auditions and was featured in the documentary about that competition, The Audition, which opened in movie theaters nationwide in 2009. She made her Met debut in the 2011–12 season as Anna in Nabucco and returned the following season as Amelia in a new production of Un Ballo in Maschera. She is a recent winner the Liederkranz Foundation Competition, Richard Tucker Career Grant Award, and Kirsten Flagstad Award with the George London Foundation as well as being the recipient of a Sullivan Foundation Career Grant.

Jamie Barton (mezzo-soprano) was the winner of both the Main and the Song Prizes at the 2013 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition and a winner of the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She made her Met debut in the 2009–10 season as the Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte and this past fall triumphed as Adalgisa in Norma. An avid recitalist, Barton has appeared with the Marilyn Horne Foundation at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall with tenor Russell Thomas as well as in a solo recital with the “On Wings of Song” series. She made her debut at Clayton State Uiniversity’s Spivey Hall singing Brahms’s Alto Rhapsody, which was also broadcast on NPR.

Russell Thomas (tenor) is a graduate of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. He is establishing himself as one of the most exciting talents on the international opera and concert scene, most recently as winner of the Viñas Competition in Barcelona (First Prize, Audience Favorite, and Best Tenor) and at the Competizione dell’Opera in Dresden. He made his Met debut in the 2004–05 season as the Herald in Don Carlo and has since sung principal roles in Fidelio, a new production of Macbeth, Die Zauberflöte, the Met premiere of Attila, Der Fliegende Holländer, Wozzeck, and La Clemenza di Tito.

Dan Saunders is becoming increasingly well known to audiences around the world as an accomplished conductor and pianist. An assistant conductor to James Levine and Seiji Ozawa and a recitalist with many of the world's finest soloists, he served as the associate conductor of the Virginia Opera from 2000 until 2006 and is currently an assistant conductor with the Met. This past season, he served on the music staff for Met productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Der Rosenkavalier, Die Fledermaus, and Arabella.

Little Red’s Hood is a fresh retelling of the classic “Little Red Riding Hood” tale updated with a modern sensibility that will appeal to kids. The production features a dozen, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre.

Like many of today’s children, Little Red is a smart, young city slicker who is too focused on her smartphone to notice her surroundings. Wulfric is a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth. When Little Red travels from New York City to the country to deliver some cupcakes to her Grandma, she encounters a colorful cast of characters as Wulfric the Wolf tries to head her off at the pass.

Little Red’s Hood is directed by Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre’s Artistic Director Bruce Cannon and written by Liam Hurley.

The CityParks PuppetMobile is the oldest continually operating company of its kind in the country, which presents free performances and puppet-making workshops in neighborhood parks, recreation centers and schools throughout New York City.

Remembering is both a collective and a personal activity. In this exhibition, both are on display in relation to two World’s Fairs that took place in Flushing, Queens in 1939/40 and 1964/65. Within this exhibition, collective memory is represented by shared experiences of the Fairs and personal memory by the memorabilia drawn from the collections of people who attended and fondly recall the Fairs. While these Fairs were global in scope, their attendees were overwhelmingly local, many residing in Queens. All items on display in the exhibition have either been donated or loaned to the Queens Historical Society by those residents of Queens who attended the Fairs.

On one August evening in the 1970's New York gave birth to a sound that would change the face of Latin music forever. At the renown Cheetah Nightclub, there was an ensemble of artists got together for what became a magical evening of music. The show was billed as "Our Latin Thing". In the decades ahead those all-star musicians would become the ambassadors and juggernauts of Latin Music around the world. They became the musical reflection of the times, needs, and struggles of New York's Latino community. Their music was "Salsa Gorda," influenced by American Jazz, Soul, and Rock and Roll. Their music became part of Americana. Currently billed as "Our Latin Thing", the group performs as an assortment of this music's top hits. This Musical/Theatrical like revue, will take the audience on a musical poetic journey. Re-Live the music, re-live the times, re-live the magic....This is "Our Latin Thing."

Imagine a hot salsa band from the 1960s reuniting after a 30-year hiatus to discover an even greater, more global, fan base. A product of New York City and the excitement and turbulence of the sixties, the New Swing Sextet made its professional debut performing in the Singer Bowl at the last New York World's Fair in 1965. The band has been a popular and innovative exponent of Latin jazz, salsa and pop music for over four decades. With a long history of making music on the streets of Latin New York through harmonized vocals, piano, vibes, bass and Latin percussion, NSS recorded the last of 4 albums, all under the Cotique label, in 1970 and broke up in the late seventies. Today, the New Swing Sextet returns under the Emusica/Fania family of labels with “Back on the Streets...a taste of Spanish Harlem Vol 2” which has just been nominated for a Grammy Award by the Recording Academy. The band offers the classic Latin New York sound of another era, perfectly preserved and bottled for today’s global salsa enthusiasts. The New Swing Sextet features George Rodriguez on vibes and vocals; Angel Justiniano on vocals and conga drums; his younger brother Harry Justiniano on bass and vocals; Tomas Martin Lopez on bongos, timbales, misc. percussion and vocals; Hector Ortiz on timbales and bongos; Joe Mannozzi on piano and the singing of Jose “Cheo” Medina on lead vocals.

Hamish Linklater and Tony® nominee Lily Rabe return to the Park this summer as the wise-cracking, would-be lovers Beatrice and Benedick in the beloved romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing. Central Park becomes sun-drenched Sicily at the turn of the last century, where the heat of summer ignites the fevered passions of lovesick ladies in corsets and pining gentlemen spying from the verandah. Three-time Tony winner Jack O’Brien directs this delightful skirmish of wit between two self-declared bachelors tricked by their mischief-making friends into falling in love against their will and in spite of their own hearts.

New York's most treasured summer tradition, Free Shakespeare in the Park, celebrates its 52nd season in Central Park's famous Delacorte Theater. Love and madness, laughter and tragedy combine for a uniquely thrilling season of exciting theater and exceptional performances under the stars. Join over 5 million people who have enjoyed The Public Theater's free performances and experience the heights of romance and the depths of duplicity in a setting unlike any other, in the heart of Manhattan.

Free tickets to the 2014 season will once again be distributed in the Park, online via the Virtual Ticketing Lottery, and in the five boroughs of New York City. For more info on getting tickets, visit the Shakespeare in the Park tickets page.
