Scapino!

By Frank Dunlop and Jim Dale

Benjamin Posner, Director

Based on Molière’s Les Fourberies de Scapin, 1665, this story is set in Naples, Italy, where the leading character Scapino schemes a complex plot to help two pairs of lovers overcome parental opposition that, it turns out, does not exist. The King of Navarre and three noblemen take an oath to devote their lives to scholarship for three years—without the company of women. When the Princess of France and three ladies-in-waiting arrive, passion and puns abound. Will the oath hold? Or will the men succumb to the game of love? In this screwball romantic comedy, Shakespeare takes wordplay and wit to dizzying heights. Bring your own blanket or chair.

Grab your friends and bring your dancing shoes – evenings of live Latin music and dancing are returning to the High Line this summer! Friends of the High Line is pleased to partner with HAI and Hudson Guild to host some of New York City’s best Latin bands at the High Line, transforming the park into an open-air dance floor at sunset.

Inspired by the guajiro musical rhythms of Cuba, Nu D’Lux of New York City offers a funky mix of son montuno, rumba, danzon, and timba styles to close out the ¡Arriba! series.

Part of High Line Live! – a performance series at the High Line – ¡Arriba! nights in June, July, and August feature different live acts bringing their own energy, musical style, and flavor to our community dance parties. (faux)H is a series of six hands-on workshops held at the Wyckoff farmhouse Museum, exploring traditional farm based skills: hand sewing, natural dying and preservation. Employing dye plants and crops grown on the Wyckoff farm, situated in the middle Brooklyn, (faux)H will be a collaborative experiment in the lost art of learning-by-doing. Join artist, Lisa Sikorski on a journey of learning about the slow process of making by hand and from the earth. Workshops are suitable for participants ages 13 and up.

Preserving the Harvest: You worked hard all spring and summer, tilling, sowing, weeding and pruning. Now is the time to reap what you sow before it goes to seed. We will cover basic ways to preserve what you’ve grown in the garden for the long winter ahead: drying, canning, freezing, pickling. Additionally, we will extend the uses of your bounty by looking at alternative ways to use your herbs and spices in the kitchen and around the house.

Participants may sign up for one or all workshops. For more information about the program or to register email.

(faux)H Workshop Series:

  • Hand Sewing & Embroidery: May 11 and June 8, 10am-12:30pm
  • Natural Dying: July 13 and August 10, 12-3pm
  • Preserving the Harvest: September 14 and October 5, 12-3pm
