French Cancan

This 1955 French film from Jean Renoir is set during the Belle Epoque in Montmartre. In it, Henri Danglard runs a cabaret where Parisians come to admire the belly dancer Lola de Castro, his mistress. When Danglard has a vision of reviving the cancan, he is inspired to cast the young laundress Nini, instead of Lola. Jealousies arise as he attempts to bring his show to the Moulin Rouge.

Films on the Green is a free outdoor French film festival produced annually in New York City parks by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the City of New York Parks & Recreation. Initiated in 2008, Films on the Green has become a not-to-be-missed free event amid the vibrant New York City summer cultural offerings. Over the years, the festival has brought classic and contemporary French cinema to New Yorkers, each season’s films spanning different themes from environment or musicals to literary adaptations. Inspired by the natural movements of the human body, Isadora Duncan created a style of dance filled with joyful, rhythmical movements. These skipping, running, and leaping, free, lyrical, and expressive upper body movements make it a great activity for children.

Wear comfortable clothes which are appropriate for the weather. Footwear should be flexible and easy to move in, such as ballet flats or comfortable sandals. This class is for children ages 4-10. Parents are responsible for the supervision of their children during the class.
