These reading rooms feature a collection of high-quality browsable books and activities and are staffed by dedicated volunteers who engage children, families, and passers-by in reading and learning. In partnership with the New York Public Library, the Uni Project is coming to Tappen Park this September!

The Uni Project has partnered with NYC Parks’ Community Parks Initiative to bring this innovative program to neighborhoods in need. The Community Parks Initiative is bringing more City resources – money, staff, programming, and partnerships – to smaller neighborhood parks in all five boroughs.

Join us this summer at the Wyckoff farmhouse for a hands-on fermentation workshop. This workshop is part of a series of six workshops for adults (and teens) in what we’re calling “creative homesteading”. Get your hands dirty in the garden, experiment with natural dyes, learn about herbal medicine, preserve your harvest, and more at the oldest house in New York!

Smell, taste, discuss and make a few simple seasonal ferments. In this workshop we’ll explore and craft two delicious types of ferments that are easily made at home without any special ingredients or equipment: a sauerkraut (and its cousins) as well as various styles of sour cream. Depending on what’s in season there may be additional ferments to explore.

Advance (free) registration required. For more information and to register, please visit http://wyckoffmuseum.org/workshops.

Come take a tour of Randall’s Island’s Wildflower Meadow! Stretching along the East River near the iconic Hell Gate bridge—just across the river from Astoria Park— the Wildflower Meadow is home to an array of native and ornamental plants that provide food and shelter for bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife. We’ll walk and talk about plants that are blooming, including fragrant and pollinator-friendly species. We’ll also observe up-close the diversity of pollinators and other insects that dine in the meadow.

All ages are welcome and no fee is required! We will be meeting at the Randall's Island side of the 103rd St. footbridge. A Randall's Island Park Alliance staff member will be on site approximately 10 minutes prior to the tour to greet you.
