Dissensions can take many forms: a soon-to-be-divorced couple bickering; a brood of misfit animals squabbling; an all-female band debating the very definition of their feminism. With unfailing shrewdness, the following shorts depict various clashes and the intense relationships that trigger them. Sharing a penchant for naturalism and distaste for gender binaries, these clever films are further proof of Swedish cinema’s incredible vitality.

Short Films

  • "I Turn to You", 2015, 15 minutes, directed by Victor Lindgren.
  • "Bath House", 2014, 15 minutes, directed by Niki Lindroth von Bahr.
  • "Pussy Have the Power", 2014, 14 minutes, directed by Lovisa Sirén.

Additional shorts to be added. Please note: Due to graphic language, this evening is not recommended for children.

Programmed by Rooftop Films. There will be pre-screening performances at 7 p.m.; films begins at sundown.

Films on the Green 2015 @ Columbia presents Joan Sfar's The Rabbi's Cat.

The Rabbi's Cat is adapted from volumes one, two, and five of Joann Sfar's popular comic-book series of the same name. The film is set in the Algiers in the 1920s. Rabbi Sfar has more than one problem. His beautiful daughter Zlabya is transforming into a teenager, and even worse, his parrot-killing cat has just started talking. The Rabbi’s life grows all the more complicated when a box arrives from Russia with a painter inside. Ultimately Rabbi Sfar ends up on a quest for a hidden tribe and its mythical city of origin in Africa.

Presented in partnership with the Columbia Maison Française

In this contemporary version of Annie, the orphan (Quvenzhané Wallis) has a hard-knock life with her calculating foster mother, Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). However, all that changes when hard-nosed billionaire and mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) takes her in. Stacks believes that he's Annie's guardian angel. But, Annie's confidence and sunny outlook could save Will instead. Rated PG.
