The New Horizons spacecraft has been on its way to Pluto since 2006, and will be making its closest approach to the former planet in just 9 short months. Before it gets there, come listen to a talk by Jaclyn Avidon, Chair of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York’s Education
and Educational Outreach Committees, as she explains all you need to know about Pluto –everything from what we currently know about the
dwarf planet, to why it lost its planetary status. After the talk, telescopes will be set up for observing on the rooftop (weather permitting).
Guests are welcome to bring their own binoculars and telescopes and set them up alongside the experts.

About the AAA: The Amateur Astronomers Association of New York was organized in 1927 to promote the study of Astronomy, emphasizing its cultural and inspirational value. The AAA holds observing and educational events throughout the 5 boroughs, and beyond. Visit aaa.org to find out more and check out their calendar of upcoming events!
