Each week, Wave Hill educators share some of their favorite nature tales. These stories—classics and more—come to life through interactive readings, sing-alongs and puppetry. This week, get ready to hiss, rattle and make a splash as we read stories about our scaly friends, the reptiles. Our fun movement pieces and counting rhymes will bring everyone out of their shells.

Stories this week: Baby Rattlesnake by Viborita de Cascabel, Turtle Splash by Cathryn Falwell and Mossy by Jan Brett. Programs are held outdoors in good weather; in Wave Hill House in inclement weather. Ideal for children ages three to six with an adult. Free with admission to the grounds.

Join us this summer at the Wyckoff farmhouse for a natural dyeing workshop. This workshop is part of a series of six workshops for adults (and teens) in what we’re calling “creative homesteading”. Get your hands dirty in the garden, experiment with natural dyes, learn about herbal medicine, preserve your harvest, and more at the oldest house in New York!

Did you know your garden is already growing a wealth of materials that you can use to beautify other things? Come learn how to take the otherwise inedible plants in your garden and dye various fibers. We will use plant materials grown specifically for dyeing as well as less commonly used dye plants. This workshop will be an exploration of the potential and uses of natural materials.
