Camping affords us the opportunity to unplug from the diversions of everyday life and to laugh and play with our families. The Urban Park Rangers celebrate the tradition of camping and we look forward to welcoming your family.

Family Camping programs take place in all five boroughs, but space is limited and families are chosen by lottery.

Hiking is the ultimate way to enjoy the outdoors and a fun way to reduce stress. Regardless of the intensity level, it is a great way to burn calories and stay fit.

Our Urban Park Ranger hiking guides will introduce you to the hidden gems of New York City parks. On our nature hikes, you can take an hour to unplug from the world and immerse yourself in the wonders of nature.

Light hikes are leisurely strolls on mostly paved paths. For all hiking programs, we recommend wearing comfortable shoes or boots, and packing water and a light snack.

Hiking is the ultimate way to enjoy the outdoors and a fun way to reduce stress. Regardless of the intensity level, it is a great way to burn calories and stay fit.

Our Urban Park Ranger hiking guides will introduce you to the hidden gems of New York City parks. On our orienteering hikes you will learn the skills needed to navigate using only a map and compass.

Moderate hikes are longer, faster-paced hikes on rugged terrain. For all hiking programs, we recommend wearing comfortable shoes or boots, and packing water and a light snack.

On Sunday afternoons, volunteers go into Highbridge Forest and tackle the modern day challenge of native reforestation. We’ll teach you everything you need to know, from native plant and tree identification to the how, why, and what of invasive species removal. Later, you can tell your friends and family how you helped preserve a forest in the middle of Manhattan!

New members are required to attend an Orientation Session, held on the first Saturday of the month. Email volunteer@nyrp.org or call 917-291-6436 for more details.
